If he wants money I bet there's a team in Russia who would be interested in him but otherwise I think he'll have to reconsider his demands (if he actually does want around $3M).
-
Is this big news - not really. But it's still something and all I need right now is a fix! This doesn't satisfy it - not even close - but together with assorted rumors it will do nicely. Decent enough signing by the Isles, can't do much else though can they? The FA pool is drying up...
-
Um...this change doesn't really bother me...The fact that the official red wings homepage has gone a shade pinkier is much more annoying...
-
So now the 'Yotes have three potential goalies who are getting a chance to turn their careers around. Well atleast they'll have plenty of blame to share...
-
Which is why I said it was nice - not spectacular. Besides, it was on the 'Hawks, give him a break.
-
Tell me, pray, which hockey team has he screwed up so far during his career? I sincerely doubt his injuries have been intentional. Sure he doesn't want to give up playing when he probably should, yet people still want him...I wonder why that is?
-
Definitely. He was also a one-team player for his entire career which is nice...
-
That KINDA isn't a contradiction.
-
And 1 Liverpool fan!! GERRARD for teh win.

Jagr isn't overrated - he is a great player and there is no question about that. He's got an attitude, a problematic one at times, that he shares with Hasek and which has worked in his favour but has sometimes led to a lot of crap being stirred up. People love flashy play and both Jagr and Hasek provide it. They are artists... But Lidström is a different kind of artist - one that's always understated. As a defenseman he doesn't need to be noticed all the time, it's enough that those that can see it, appreciate it. The fact that Lidström is the only Euro to win the Conn Smythe is big - very big. If Detroit had won the Cup this year, he likely would've had a second one. Jagr was good in these play-offs but would not have one the Conn Smythe - it would have gone to a different Euro on the NYR who was more important than Jagr, Lundqvist. Whether Lidström is the best Euro to play in the NHL will be argued forever until a Euro with the points of Jagr and the leadership and loyalty of Sundin/Lidström appears.

Awww...another one - how sweet...

Agreed. He's never given any indication that he'd like to leave. The only way I'd see him leave would be if Toronto was so far out of the playoff race that it definitely wouldn't matter if he stayed AAAND they got an offer they definitely couldn't refuse - see what Nashville gave Philly for Forsberg. Can Detroit afford to give up those picks/prospects? Maybe. Will they? Nah.
-
That Kaberle plays on the Leafs is quite irrelevant. The fact that he hasn't done anything to a RW player doesn't matter - I still don't like him and the edge he has. Nevertheless he might be a decent fit in Detroit - I certainly wouldn't mind having a "good" fighter on the team. But some of you people overephasize this, I want a player who stands up for himself and his team, not a pure fighter - damn I miss Shanny! Agreed. I'd actually like Pronger playing for the RW - I'd still hate him, he's just one of those guys, but I certainly wouldn't say no. Exactly. As much as I'd want a 2nd line winger right now - or any 2nd line player - this team seems set right now. I think they're going to give the young ones a chance and hopefully they'll bloom.
-
I'd love to see Sundin in red and white but I sincerely doubt him ever leaving the Leafs - even if they suck, which they do. He'd be a great pick up at the deadline, physical, goal-scorer, can play both wing and center aaaand he loves to win. He doesn't have that big of a chance to win clutch games in Toronto - when do they ever play clutch games - but for the Swe national squad he's shown this ability more than once.
-
blergh...i can't take this anymore...the guy isn't worth all this speculation...here, blogs, swe and NA papers - you know it's summer...
-
Probably. Though who knows, something good might come of it eventually. Though I'd rather have Knuble RIGHT NOW. Would really shore up some of our short term needs.
-
I'd love to see Detroit in the East - atleast I wouldn't lose so much sleep. We'd also play more exciting teams with either a more natural rivalry or with fun players.

I truly hope that Zetts will be back healthy and strong and that this was just a precaution by the team to prevent further injury. I certainly don't want him to start the season sort of half healthy - I'd rather have him wait a bit. And about enforcerers - I just think we lack those attitude players, someone who takes dumb penalties but also stands up and protects his team-mates.
-
On the other hand it seems like Forsberg was having a good time - 5 points and 2 goals (Swe-linky). It is just a charity game though.
-
Just read that. It's just charity games so why risk it I guess. Back injuries can be scary and he should really take some time before coming back. Interestingly enough Forsberg is taking a different approach - though a foot injury, one that's mostly healed, is less of a problem than a herniated disk.
-
I hope the technology gets even better - cheaper and faster to fly for example . Even the whole media and watch games on tv doesn't really work for me. The network here offers such a small amount of games that it isn't worth it. Thank god for sopcast...
-
Certainly the laugh of the night for me...although I'm slightly tired - got the night shift...
-
True. Someone with attitude would really help. Used to have plenty of them but not anymore. McCarty, Feds, Shanny... all of 'em gone. And Zetts is no Forsberg - who does have attitude - and as you say Dats ain't no Feds.
-
"Accessable" stars are difficult in this day and age. Hockey players are probably better than most other sports stars at staying in touch with the common man... I would like to have some on our team though who'd make an honest attempt to reach out to the fans in a sincere way but I think the NHL already does plenty more than many other leagues/sports. Having an NA star would help, as would having a player who truly played with his heart on his sleeve - McCarty-style...

I really get where you all are coming from. When I started to cheer Red Wings to cheer for back in the day it was mainly because of Fedorov. The successes the team's had in recent years has definitely helped, as has having people like Yzerman and Shanny on the team. But for a Swe having Lidström AND Zetts on the team is awesome - someone to relate to. The main reason why I semi-cheered for Ottawa is cuz of Alfy - played on my hometown team in Sweden. So trust me - I do understand why you're feeling the way you do and understand that it isn't any kind of Euro-bashing. National sentiments run high everywhere, especially in sports, and it is nice to have someone to identify with - makes it that much easier. Case in point - if I lived in the Detroit-area I'd try to watch every single home-game.
