I love that he dared to go with a younger and up-and-coming squad...Great games played. Still surprised that Russia didn't at least make it to the final. Great going by Finland. Sweden played well enough considering squad. Nice going by Switzerland to grab the 8th spot.

The Swedish Elite League and the Russian ditto are great leagues and the best in Europe but they can't really compare to the NHL. Exhibition for now definitely. Why should a Stanley Cup winner/finalist give a damn about some crap like this? Europe needs to build up a proper big-time league first... -

People in Sweden try to sell of Bäckström as a new Forsberg but I kinda doubt he'll post those kinda numbers in his rookie season. He's a good player no doubt but I don't think we'll see an explosive entry into the NHL. I have my hopes though, I've seen the guy play here in Sweden more than a few times now and he's got a great attitude...

Agreed. He wasn't good enough to take over Howard. I don't think Detroit needs to drastically draft more goalies/trade for prospects. I need to look through it again to be sure but as far as I remember there are several promising goalies in Europe that Detroit might look to. Besides, if Liv suddenly starts performing extremely well in Sweden and Detroit wishes to give him a 2nd chance then what's stopping them...
