Talk about having a nice problem. Can't imagine any team that's had the amount of franchise-type players that Detroit's had in the past 15-20 years that would've easily had their numbers retired with pretty much any other team.

Personally it would be really weird to see someone else wear nr 91. I'm not saying it should be retired or anything but temporarily taken out of circulation or something. At the same time, if anyone should wear it, it should be a guy like Modano.

Go Modano! F-ing finally... How long has this been going on? And more importantly - how many pages will a combined thread about Modano reach? Losing a prospect that then turns around and has a crazy off-season is never fun. But considering there was nothing - NOTHING - in his play when he was here that suggested he was capable of it I don't feel pissed about it at all.

Considering they won a cup with the second cheapest season tickets in the league, a hike is understandable. 20 % is a bit much but if they keep doing ok - making the playoffs and such then people won't complain. And after 2-3 seasons this won't be an issue. Considering they haven't had much of a soul for a while I guess it wasn't that much of a loss.

There's a few goaltenders in that range of skill and pay still available so they shouldn't have much problem replacing Niemi I don't think.

If Phaneuf's next season is like the one he had in 07-08 then people won't complain about him. If he has another season like his latest one then people will cry foul.

Problem with bringing Frolov to a team with a lot of underperformers is that he might fall into that same trap. I truly hope he doesn't but to be honest, with this team, it's not looking good. And when it comes to the rest of the team, there's nothing exciting there. I'll most likely be proven wrong because that's usually how it works but I don't see them going anywhere until the Drury and Redden contracts are finished. Those two have a total cap hit of $13.5M which is insane.
