Really? Because the NHL rulebook is pretty clear on the subject.
-
Luckily you don't have to look it up, it's right in my previous post you replied to. If it is goaltender interference, it's a penalty, no questions asked.
-
Look at the rule again. Datsyuk was dumped on the play, he was forced into Turco by a Dallas player, it should have been a goal. The only reason is wasn't was because the whistle blew before the puck went in.
-
The only problem with that is goaltender interference is a judgment call most of the time. There are guidelines, and for the most part is pretty easy to call, but you can't really review it. It's not a black and white call like a high stick is.
-
This is my biggest problem with the call. From the NHL rulebook, rule 69.1 "In all cases in which an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, whether or not the goalkeeper is inside or outside the goal crease, and whether or not a goal is scored, the attacking player will receive a penalty (minor or major, as the Referee deems appropriate). In all cases where the infraction being imposed is to the attacking player for hindering the goalkeeper’s ability to move freely in his goal crease, the penalty to be assessed is for goalkeeper interference." So if it was goaltender interference, by rule Homer should have gotten a minor penalty. It's pretty black and white here.

Last I read, the NHL is forcing the Ducks to fine Scotty, got a link that says otherwise? I remember reading on Spector's that Burke wasn't happy about it, but realized it was part of the process. I looked but I can't find it now. But I'm certain that the NHL isn't just going to push it under the rug. If for no other reason, the other GM's wouldn't just let it go.

It was kinda neat back in the day, especially in instances like Nolan beating Dom. It really doesn't bother me for two reasons: 1. I kinda like it, it lets me watch more of the game and less time telling my lady friend where to look for the puck. 2. Some people actually watching the game with it, and those who really love hockey will get over it.

You know, the only thing I could think about while reading this article is the fact that the manufacturer is getting sued. How ridiculous is that? Think about it, if you made a product and the product was involved indirectly in someones death due to no actions of yours, how would you feel about being sued? It's ridiculous. I'm all for Vladdy getting paid and all, but that is what life insurance, and the NHLPA are for. He shouldn't get a dime out of the manufacturer. Ever. It makes me sick thinking about how people are trying to profit from his suffering.

No they can't, he wasn't signed by the trading deadline, therefore he cannot play until next season. And come one, the Stars are a much better team than the Avs, if for no other reason they are much healthier coming into this series than the Avs were coming into the last round.

I think this is the point he was trying to make. Draper is a better player without a stick than Helm is, therefore the Wings are better off to have Drapes without a stick than Helm. Personally, playing d I might be a little bias, but it's more critical that a dman have a stick than a forward. However, given the option between one of my most defensively sound forwards and a forward who is average on d not having a stick, I'm taking the stick away from the guy who is more defensively sound. It's more than just blocking shots, it's getting in passing lanes, work in the corners, and puck pursuit. In that situation, Helm needs a stick more than Draper.

I'm really surprised he didn't sign with Toronto. The Leafs are the only team that would give him a real shot at big minutes right away. It's really the perfect situation for him, a team in rebuilding stages, in need of some young scoring, and available ice time. At any rate, what puzzles me about this kid is not only has he never played for Sweden in International competition, but he hasn't ever been offered a roster spot. Makes me wonder if he is some sort of black sheep or something. If he is so good, what's the issue? Also take into consideration that the Wings Euro scouts didn't pick him up any earlier than anyone else did. Something just doesn't seem right. He is 23 and no one has taken a chance in the draft on him. I don't know, just seems shday to me.

Let me spell it out for you because you are clearly missing the point here. No one is perfect, bad calls happen, and everyone takes penalties. It's the nature of the game. Even a stand up gent like Wellwood has taken more than two minor penalties. If you have played the game you know what I'm talking about. I'm not saying it's impossible for a guy to go a full season without taking a penalty (BTW, Wellwood has never played a full season without taking a penalty. The closest was his 03-04 season in St. John's, 76 of 80 GP and only 6 PIMs.) just that it is impossible for a guy to play the game for any real lenght of time without taking a handful of penalties even if he didn't deserve them.

Budaj did let in, what, 5 goals in game 4? The goaltending wasn't the problem. The Wings were just better that much better than the Avs. Can't really blame the coach for having so many key players not able to play.

Hasek won't be back. I think it will be Downey or Mac, IMO it will be Mac. The Wings love vets with playoff experience. If Stuart does sign with Detroit, Lilja is a goner, especially with the GR gang waiting for a chance. Cheli will play as long as it makes sense. I think all the others are locks to be back except Sammy, because his role could be filled by a more productive Rex and Flip. Here is something that I think needs to be brought up. There is a reason Stuart hasn't stuck anywhere. 3 teams in 5 years, what is the underlaying issue with Stuart?
-
I could be wrong, but I think even Wellwood has spent time in the box.... You missed the point.
-
I wasn't trying to argue that you made it seem as if you were some sort of marvel for your lack of PIMs. Only that it is impossible to play hockey over the course of a few season (assuming you've played a bit since you referred to it as your 'hockey career') and not be called for something that wasn't teh result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Better yet, going up against a significantly weaker player, and getting a call against you because something looked like a penalty. It happens to all of us. The only other feasable option is that you don't actually play with refs. Seriously, I'm not trying to argue with you, but come on, especially in beer leagues penalties aren't always penalties, make up calls are made, and refs get the wrong guy.

Crosby hasn't even been the best player on his own team in the playoffs. Both Malkin and Fleury have been more important to the Pens success than Crosby.
-
Have you played more than one game? If you have, then be honest. There is no way you've played and entire 'career' and only gotten 2 minor penalties. Datsyuk is the perfect example, you are going to get a call against you every once in a while even though you didn't do anything wrong. It's just the nature of the game.

I've heard rumblings of a separated left shoulder.

I'm tired of reading the 'he does embellish calls, but he doesn't dive' bs posts. The two are the same thing. It's a black and white issue, either you don't take a dive, or you do. Crosby is no different than Claude Lemieux, Maltby or Forsberg in that he embellishes when he thinks he can get the call. Nearly every NHLer does it, Crosby is no different. I've watched more Pens games than most here, probably about 50 games in the season, and all but 2 or 3 playoff games. I've seen enough of Crosby to have an educated opinion. I hate all the hype that comes with Crosby, and I hate Crosby for several reasons. One of them is not because he is a diver. What blows my mind is, as a ref when you see Crosby get knocked down easily you have to wonder what happened. As much as I don't like the guy, he is a beast with the puck. To me, it's pretty easy to tell when he takes a dive, but only because he is so strong on the puck, very much like Datsyuk. Bottom line, 90% of the league is doing it, once again, Crosby is just the posterchild. Something needs to be done about this. And yes, it would be very 'Don Cherry-ish' to say that the Euro's brought diving to the game. One thing I can't stand about Cherry is that everything negative about the game is somehow the Euro's fault. He next to never gives them any credit for enhancing the game. Great example is his review on Marleau jumping over the puck instead of blocking the shot that ended up in the net. He said that Marleau shouldn't be at fault for not blocking the shot (against Dallas) because he played a great couple of games in Calgary. A few months ago, he showed a few clips of Kovalchuck (I think) doing exactly what Marleau did, without the jump, Koalchuck just stood straight up to block the shot, he didn't go down. Cherry ripped Kovalchuck for not dropping down to block the shot, he said good Canadians block shots, and then showed 3 or 4 clips of Canadians blocking shots. There is patriotism, and then there is racism. Unfortunately Don is more often then not, closer to the latter.

Let me spell it out for you since you obviously missed the point here. Canadians embelish injuries too. If you want to sit there and think Maltby, Lemieux, or Crosby are somehow any different when they do it, that's fine. It just shows how little you know about the game. Try putting on a pair of skates and letting someone the size of Orpik hit you just like Jagr was hit. I'd be surprised if you were able to get up on your own at all.

Here is a great one exclusively for hockey. No extra downloads or crap like that, just type in the URL, and in a few clicks, you'll have a full screen view of the game. AWESOME SITE Every now and again it cuts out, but refresh the page and you'll be fine. Enjoy.
-
Yup, Crosby has never embeleshed an injury, neither has Claude Lemieux, Avery, or Maltby. It just doesn't happen with Canadians, something in their DNA doesn't allow it. [/sarcasm]

The Leafs might need a fresh start, but parting ways with Sundin isn't that way to get it. There are plenty of other players who should be sent packing before the Leafs should ever think about not giving Mats whatever he wants. If Sundin retires without winning a Cup, he will be up there for consideration of greatest player never to win it. Mats is the modern days Stevie. He is one of the last of a dying breed. The Leafs will be far worse off when Sundin finally does retire.
