Yup, it's the size of the pads that make the goaltender. I've got an extra large pair on order, in red and white. With them I plan to make the Wings roster next season and take the league by storm.

I think every team should have a 3rd jersey. Three reasons why.... 1) More revenue for the league, always a plus 2) It changes up things up a bit, and could get a few 'fence-fans' to tune in for a bit to check the jerseys out. This probably wouldn't create any noticable ratings jump, but it could create a few new fans 3) I like them

I never said Richards was. I just see Richards as a player that would fit very well in the Wings system. Regardless, if you have Richards, you don't need Cleary, but who's to say he wouldn't take less to stay in Detroit and try to win a Cup? With Richards in the lineup you have a legit threat on the second line. As for the payroll, Kenny is paid to figure that out. You don't think you could put together something? It's very manageable if you try. It's late, maybe tomorrow I'll throw a proposal together.

I won't argue for one second that Richards is overpaid. In fact, I posted exactly that in the thread about the trade that sent him to Dallas. There is no excuse for a player being paid that much to lead the league on the bottom side of +/-. That being said, what justification do you have for Zetterburg, Datsyuk, and Thornton to be paid that but not Richards? Of that groupd you mentioned, Datsyuk is the only player to have even played in a SCF game. Thornton has never been out of the second round. Richards not only won a Cup, but was also the playoff MVP. He is a proven playoff performer. If Richards comes to Detroit, it allows the Wings to move other guys, possibly Hank and his bad back.

That's exactly why I singled Kronwall out. If you take out the tandem of Ozzie and Dom you are left with about $3 to clear to fit Bobby with what the Wings currently have spent. This would leave room for deadline moves. Also, something that everyone is overlooking, think about this. The rumor was Datsyuk + going to Florida. That means the Wings wouldn't be paying his $6.7, that in itself makes pleanty of room for Bobby.

Someone should create a poll so we can vote on the name, just to make it official. I think that would be fun. But I'm too lazy.

Offense: -2 Defense: +1 Tending: -1 Overall: -2 Offense: Regardless of your opinion of Lang, or what he, Bert, and Calder did or didn't do they brought with them the offensive capabilities that forced the opposition to match up against them. This years second line is no where near as threatening. Realistically you could flip-flop the second and third lines and most likely get quite similar offensive output. This is not good enough to win the Cup. Yes, the regular season has been kind to Detroit. But as well all know, the regular season doesn't mean jack. Defense: I think this team really missed the physicality that Markov brought. Stuart can help fill that hole. I disagree with the poster who suggested that Lilja should play over Lebda. Lebda is just as good defensively as Lilja, equally as physical, and has a ton more speed. Not to mention Lebda and Chelios play very well together. IF Kronwall can stay healthy, the Wings D is a little better than last year. Goaltending: The Wings are dependant on a two netminder system. The Wings are no different than any other team that has tried that, and it's a proven failure. The problem with that system is while in some cases, as with Detroit, both goalies may be capable, it creates a controversy as soon as one goalie plays a bad game. Regardless whether or not there is an actual controversy amongst the team and coaches, it creates a distraction that the entire team must deal with in the media. Also, I think Dom has suffered a decline in talent. He is one year older, a little slower, a littler stiffer.

Isn't Mike Myers from Toronto?

What the:censored:?! How have/had you never seen or heard about that goal?!

True Kopy's goals wasn't on a stage as large as the others. But that bowl game play wasn't that impressive. If I remember correctly, it wasn't the national championship game, wasn't it a second rate bowl game? I don't know how that highlight beat out Gibby's home run for the Dodgers, or Willie Mayes with the over the shoulder catch. That bowl highlight had no place being nominated.

The Wings offense does begin with the d. But without any real threat outside of ZDH, it makes things a lot easier for opposing teams to shut down. Again, this years Wings are weaker than last years team. Out are Bert, Lang, Matty, Markov, and Calder. In are Ralffy, Downey, Mac, Drake, and Stuart. Regardless of the offensive output that Bert, Lang, and Calder produced in the playoffs, or lack thereof. They still gave the opposition another worry. Do you seriously think that Rex and Flip are anywhere near as threatening? It boils down to the Wings aren't as good as they were last year, while the competition got better. Plain and simple.
-
We could argue this all day. Bottom line is Richards could have fit in under the cap, and left room to sign others without having to gut the roster too much.
-
Are you serious? Bobby is a BARGAIN at the annual cap hit of $6.75. If you think Bobby's contract handcuffs the Nucks, then what must you think of Datsyuk's, Nick's, Ralffy's or the one Hank WILL get? If the Wings have Bobby in net, they don't need to pay a guy like Kronwall $3 per, or Ralffy's $6. Instead, you would see cheaper role guys in those spots. Anyone who wouldn't take Bobby and his contract is insane. He is the best at what he does.

I misread Osgood's stat line , I thought both the .917 SV% and 2.17 GAA were in 94-95, it was only the SV% that was in 94-95, the GAA was the following year, in which he was a starter. In 94-95 he played in only 19 games. Also, I wasn't speaking of the Bobby of 97, I'm speaking of Bobby from his Panther days through the present day.

Like I said, the Wings don't need Bobby to win the Cup. But he would put them in better position to do so. Plug Bobby into the roster from 97-present and you could argue that the Wings have a very real chance at winning 5 or 6 in a row. Hands down the man is better than any tender in the league. Just for some reference, Bobby averaged about 2000 shots against over his tenure in Florida, while never posting a GAA worse than .915, or a SV% above 3. Over their tenures with Detroit, here is what Vernon, Osgood, and Hasek have posted. Vernon never faced more than 782 shots in a season, his best SV% was .903 and best GAA was 2.26. Osgood has never faced more than 1730 shots, his best SV% was .917 and best GAA was 2.17 (both as backup). Hasek has never faced more than 1660 shots, his best SV% was .925 and best GAA was 2.05. But yeah. Bobby probably wouldn't have been able to help those teams win a Cup.

I won't argue it as the best highlight ever. However, I don't think fan voting should have counted as much as it did. Seriously, the highlight of that college football game that was up against the Eruzione goal wasn't even in the same league. It was a nice trick play, and the dude did propose to his gf after the game, but really, that's the second best highlight of all time? I could have some bias, but I think Kopy's goal against Tampa Bay earlier this season was more deserving than that.
-
True the Wings don't need Bobby to win a Cup, but there is no denying that having Bobby on the team would put the Wings in a MUCH better position to win a Cup than any goaltender the Wings have had in the last 50 years.

Is Eva the only one of sound mind here? Geez-us-krist! Bettman does what he is told to do and that is what keeps him in 'power'. Bettman hasn't done a perfect job in everything he has done, but no one does. To the person who called Leipold a 's*** owner' you need to get your facts straight. He pured more money into that franchise than nearly every other owner and lost nearly all of it. How can he be blamed for getting out of a bad business location? Seriously, he took the Preds from an expansion team, to a perennial contender. Yeah, come to think of it, you are right. Who would want an owner who is willing to spend money on his team, and try to win a Cup. That's just crazy talk.

Wasn't that game actually one of the most watched sporting events of it's time? I remember hearing something to that effect. It had a lot to do with the cold war and whatnot.
-
Fixed it for you. No need for thanks.
-
I think you have the cart before the horse here. Let me rephrase.... If Kronwall can stay healthy, and keep up his current level of play, by the time Lidstrom retires he has a shot at being the number one dman.
-
I'd trade Pav for Bobby any day of the week and twice on Sunday. That's the kind of difference maker Bobby is.
-
Yes I've seen Stuart play. He is doing a fine job. But the Wings didn't address their biggest need: secondary scoring. As I said before, Stuart is a great fit for the Wings, but the Wings are still going to have a hard time putting up goals in the playoffs. The addition of Mac doesn't help scoring one bit. In fact, it will make the team slower, and not quite as efficient with the puck. Getting the dmen back is moot. The Wings going into this years playoffs aren't any better than last years team. I for one believe that this years team isn't as good as last years team.

I would agree that the Wings were deadline losers. Largely because the teams around they got better (regardless if it was the Ducks getting Selanne and Scotty back, or the Stars getting Richards) and the Wings didn't do much of anything.
