Does anyone know what happened to Chris Valentine?
imisssergei replied to HomeNugget's topic in General
He is a coach now. And he is pushing 50. I wouldn't hold your breathe for a return to the NHL. -
I understand the point you are trying to make, but it just doesn't fit here. We are talking about goal scorers, not playmakers. I'm not trying to say that your point isn't valid. What I am saying is that in this case, it's irrelevant. If we were talking about the best point producers your argument would hold some water. It would be like discussing the greatest home run hitter of all time, and trying to say that because Hank Aaron has more RBI's than Barry Bonds, that makes Aaron the best home run hitter.

Get out of left field. Setting up a goal has nothing to do with ones goal scoring ability. When speaking of ones ability to set up a goal, we speak of playmaking ability. The two are completely different abilities. It's what makes Brett Hull and Adam Oates such different players. And for the record, Vrbata's 24 goals are in the same league as Z's 31.

That's all well and good, but we aren't talking about total points scored, or opportunities created. We are talking about goal scoring ability, so all of the stuff you mentioned is irrelevant in this case.

Hilarious.....that kinda looks like Khabbi....

Seriously, he seperated his shoulder. Trust me, from personal experience, 7-10 days is no where near enough time. I played with my injury, but I could hardly pass and shooting was out of the question. It was the end of the season, so I figured what the hell, it can't get any worse. After the season was over, I had to sit out the entire summer baseball league because it took about 6 weeks to heal enough for me to be able to swing a bat. I was out a total of about 12 weeks with the injury. Mine was a bit worse than Kronwall's, but he is a professional athlete getting top notch medical support.

I need help with the math for the rest of the season...

The problem is the numbers will change nearly every single day as different teams win and lose. -
Also, why is everyone talking about games per goal? Isn't the more common way to look at that stat goals per game? That's what I've been accustomed to......

Laugh at me if you want, but I am going to give you a name that NEVER gets any respect. Peter Bondra. He was scoring goals when it was impossible to score goals. In 1997-98, Bondra scored 52 goals. The Capitals scored only 219. That works itself out to 23.7%. That's NUTS. Let's get some statistical representation. Mario Lemieux's best goal scoring year, 1988-89. He scored 85 of the Pens 347 goals, or 24.5%. Wayne Gretzky's best goal scoring year, 1981-82. He scored 92 of the Oilers 417 goals, or 22%. Mike Bossy's best goal scoring year, 1978-79. He scored 69 of the NYI's 358 goals, or 19%. Steve Yzerman's best goal scoring year, 1988-89. He scored 65 of Detroit's 313 goals, or 21%. Pavel Bure's best goal scoring year, 1993-94. He scored 60 of the 'Nucks 279 goals, or 22%. (*Bure also score 60 in 1992-93, but the 'Nucks scored more goals that year.) Alex Ovechkin's best goal scoring year, 2005-06. He scored 52 of Washington's 230 goals, or 23% Putting Bondra up against any of the greats, and he is right there with every single one of them. What the real difference is, Bondra was scoring when pucks weren't supposed to go in. Now, I'm not saying he is the greatest goal scorer of all time. But I do think he deserves his due credit when we are talking about the best of all time. There are a few guys who scored more than Bondra over their careers, but he was right there with best.

Max is a poor mans Gaborik. Great speed, above average puck handling skills, but always seems to have trouble finishing off the spectacular plays he creates.

My point is that Gleason and Johnson will be equally effective dmen. Gleason plays a different style. I still think the trade is a push. With the Recchi deal, I still don't see how the Pens are losers. Again, Recchi came back to the Pens. They rented him for prospects. It wasn't like the Pens were in a position to make the playoffs. If Recchi doesn't come back to the Pens, then the deal looks a little different.

Per TSN, Mac signs with the Griffins. He is set to make his debut on Friday in Cleveland.

I'm not exactly sure what each country is like. However, MacLean wasn't that impressive over here. Typically, guys go overseas to play because they get paid more, and get more PT.

1. Crosby 2. Heatley 3. Emery 4. Hasek 5. Tarnstrom

I have to argue these two deals. I don't think you can label the Canes as a loser in the first deal. Effectively, they traded Jack Johnson for Tim Gleason. Yes, there is more hype surrounding Johnson, but Gleason is a Scott Stevens type of dman. He has a huge upside, just as Jackson does. The Pens unloaded Recchi to the Canes for prospects and a pick, then signed Recchi in the offseason, then released Recchi. The Pens weren't losers, I have a hard time labeling a team losers when the traded player signs with the team that dealt him. Basically the Pens rented Recchi to the Canes for prospects and a pick. I would label this as a draw, only because the Canes didn't give much up and won a Cup, while the Pens got a little something for letting the Canes borrow Recchi.

The answer is more $$ and PT most likely.
-
I like the way you think.
-
I'm too lazy, but someone should go through those #1 picks that Detroit traded away to see who was essentially traded for. Just a though.

It was only a matter of time. And if it is a separated shoulder, there is no way he will be back in a week. Look at Shouray, he hasn't been the same since he separated his shoulder, and he is back on IR.

I know, I was being a smartass....

Remember the Sens had Dom in there too..... I think this situation could be quickly resolved. Get ride of Emery as fast as possible. I'd go with Gerber. I remember watch HNIC about a month into the season. Grapes made a few great points about Gerber. At the time, Emery was still out, and wasn't going to be back anytime soon. Grapes compared Gerber to how good he was with the Canes. He basicly said that Gerber isn't the type of goaltender that responds well to having someone (in this case Emery) 'push' him to play better. Just as Grapes predicted, once Emery came back, Gerber started to stumble. Give Gerber the number one spot, even if it means demoting Emery.

That only adds up to 36..... My list... Yzerman Leetch Hull Robitaille Honorable mention Larionov Andreychuk Bondra

Maltby is a seasoned vet who plays a very important role in the playoffs. Combined with Draper the Wings have the best PK forwards in the league.
-
No Kopy shouldn't get more PT. If he does, that means someone else will have lost a little PT. Kopy isn't better than any player above him on the depth chart.

That is unbelievably racist. I can't fathom how one's nationality has anything to do with his ability to play hockey.
