Sat. Hotstove: Rob Blake to the Wings?

I don't hate your opinons, I always get a good laugh from your posts. That is, when I can make sense out of them. Look at the Wings d corp. Point out one guy who plays the role that Blake/Foote plays. You can't because there isn't. The closest thing the Wings have to a guy like that is Cheli, and he doesn't really do that much. The Wings are a puck possesion team. In order for that to work, you must have puck moving defensemen. In case you've forgotten, the Wings have tried bringing in a big, physical dman before. They don't fit in with the Wings. Remember Uwe? Remember Hatcher?

Heatley out 4-6 weeks (sep. shoulder)

    1) True, but I didn't start this deviation. 2) No, you can't. And no, I didn't imply he was drunk. Rather, I just made that point that alcohol was in his system, therefore it did have an effect on him. I never commented on the severity of the effect. It's black and white, either there is alcohol involved, or there wasn't. Whenever alcohol is involved, it is a factor. 3) Yes, he was a kid, he did make a horrible mistake. There is no doubt that his status helped him out. He may not have been a oft recognized celeb in Atlanta, but everyone knew who he was after it happened. He did plead guilty, but that was part of a plea bargain to drop the charge that carried the most weight, first-degree vehicular homicide as well as reckless driving. Also, don't think for one second that the Thrashers weren't pulling all sorts of strings for Dany. If he had been convicted, and sentenced to more than one year, he could have also been deported thus taking away his ability to play in the NHL. The bottom line is that Heatley did not get what he deserved, and it pisses me off because people of lesser public stature get put away for lesser crimes. What he did should have been punished with jail time. It wasn't. He got off. He should be thanking his lucky stars every day.

One has to believe that winning a Cup is a pretty strong motivator.

Heatley out 4-6 weeks (sep. shoulder)

    1) How often do threads stay spot on the intended topic? 2) He admitted to having one beer before driving, which means he had alcohol in his system. You can't say alcohol wasn't a factor simply because he was under the 'legal limit' Alcohol effects your system, regardless of how much you have. Case and point, look at someone who has one beer for the first time. They get a good buzz. The only reason you don't get a good buzz if you are an experienced drinker, is your body is used to the chemicals released to fight the effect of the alcohol. The alcohol still has an equally potent effect on the body. 3) The legal system would have put average joe in jail for a long time. Simply because Heatly is a celeb, and Snyder's family are incredibly forgiving people shouldn't change anything. He should be in jail for involuntary manslaughter.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

Don't waste your time. Packer just likes to argue. There is no use for reason or logic in his tiny world. He's obviously one of those who loves Dom and thinks he can do no wrong, but try to put up a "I only think what's fair" facade.

Sat. Hotstove: Rob Blake to the Wings?

Seriously, are you retarded? The Wings have 'enough' puck moving dmen? That's EXACTLY they kind of dmen that fit into the Wings system. "blake or foote here and we'd be dynamite in the back end" Blake is 38, and makes $6 per. Foote is 36, and making $4.6. Havelid is 34, and making $2.7. Havelid brings everything to the table that either of those guys brings, while also being signed for next season which would help solidify the top 4 group. He also would fit better into the Wings puck possesion style of play. He is exactly the type of player the Wings need to round out the top 4 pairings.

    Next Year

For the record. Datsyuk: drafted in 1998, made the team as a regular in 2001. Zetterburg: drafted in 1999, made the team as a regular in 2002. Filpulla: drafted in 2002, made the team as a regular in 2006. Fedorov: drafted in 1989, made the team as a regular in 1990. Lidstrom: drafter in 1989, made the team as a regular in 1991. The point is if the player is ready, he won't sit in the minors and rot. If he is good enough, he will play. The Wings aren't keeping these guys in GR because they can. They are keeping these guys in GR because that is where they belong. As for being 'NHL ready', that is such a bulls*** term. If the guy is 'NHL ready' he would be playing in the NHL. The Wings might have a few guys in GR who are playing very well in GR, but that doesn't necessarily translate into success at the NHL level. It's a completely different game. Chelios and Lidstrom will play for the Wings until they decide it's time to move on, or until they play their way off the roster. If ANY of the guys in GR were good enough to be on the team this year they would be on the team. On a side note, I don't see the Wings letting Lebda go. He is the type of dman they like. He moves the puck well, and plays a great transition game. Kenny and Babs seem to really like Lilja. I see the odd man out as Kronwall, if anyone.

    Technical Shootout Question

"In addition, during stoppages of play in the game, he must not proceed to his players’ bench for the purpose of receiving a replacement stick or equipment or repairs thereto, or due to an injury, or to receive instructions, without first obtaining permission to do so from the Referee. Otherwise, he must be replaced by the substitute goalkeeper immediately (without any delay) or be assessed a bench minor penalty for delay of game. 28.7 Participating in the Play Over the Center Red Line - If a goalkeeper participates in the play in any manner (intentionally plays the puck or checks an opponent) when he is beyond the center red line, a minor penalty shall be imposed upon him. The position of the puck is the determining factor for the application of this rule." And just to clear up the wording in the rule book, the NHL uses player in reference to skaters, and goalkeeper in reference to 'tenders. "If, while the penalty shot is being taken, any player, goalkeeper, Coach or non-playing Club personnel..."

CuJo to sign with Calgary or San Jose

Do you mean Mason (or Ellis) in Nashville maybe?
  12. imisssergei

CuJo to sign with Calgary or San Jose

At this point in his career, Cujo is thinking about a Cup, nothing else. Here are my thoughts. Toronto: Too much tied up in payroll, not anywhere near the playoffs this year. No chance. Rangers: Slightly more possible than Toronto, but not likely as they haven't proven much this year. Tampa Bay: Aren't the Leafs ahead of Tampa in the standings? San Jose: Somethings needs to happen so Nabokov can get a rest. Cujo would fill a VITAL role in doing just that, while giving San Jose a chance to win without having Nabby in net. Carolina: Legit option, however, they already have an aging backup in Grahame, and a capable backup in Leighton. Pittsburgh: Not a real shot at the Cup, possibly in a few years. Although he could help push Fleury. As long as Conklin is playing well, it won't happen. Calgary: He could help get Kipper back in form, but he has a rocky past with Keenan. While some reports say Keenan has called Cujo's agent to say the past is the past, it doesn't look good. My money is on San Jose. Darkhorse: Atlanta, they could make a push for the postseason, to do this they could use a goaltending upgrade. It's a situation that Cujo has thrived on in the past.

    Throwback Jerseys

No. Those jersey's are U-G-L-Y!!! If anything, the Wings should sport those black alternate jerseys that were popular a few years ago, I've always wanted to see them in action.
  14. While Eva's example is entertaining, I'll spell it out for everyone. The only network that was willing to pay what the NHL BOG felt was what the NHL was worth was VS. If the NHL was really concerned with 'growing the sport' it would be on ESPN. It's sad to say, but it's the only way to get the casual fan to watch a few games.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

God, I can't believing I'm even bothering to respond to this. But here I go.... In short, the reason you have to take out Ozzie's 3 worst games if you take out Dom's 3 worst games is to make an equal comparison. Let me put it into terms you might be able to relate to. Both you and I are up for a promotion at work. You've worked there a few years longer than I have, but both of us are senior employees. This year, you slacked off a lot for the first few months, missing days for no good reason. While I worked my ass off, but I did take a few sick days. You have lately picked things up are started to work a lot harder, and not miss days for no good reason. So the boss sits down to evaluate both of us. He looks at you first, sees your rocky start, but also you recent change back to your old ways. Then he looks at me, and sees I've had a few slips, but nothing too serious. Tell me how it would make ANY sense for the boss to throw out your poor performances to evaluate us? You can't because it doesn't. Of course you are going to look better than you really have been. So, for sake of LOGIC, he must also throw out an equal amount of my slip ups. Make sense? Or do I need to break it down further? It has nothing to do with me 'opening my mind' and everything to do with you having a man crush on Dom. I've said it before, I hate Dom. But I can admit when he has a good game, and I give him his due credit. On the flip side, I'll be right there yelling when he has a s***ty game. But I don't lobby for Ozzie because in games played after 7pm, on a Wednesday in the Pacific time zone, when the Wings are wearing the red jersey and the opposition doesn't have at least 3 right handed defensemen, he has a .001 better save percentage than Dom. Seriously, your boat is sinking, and I know the captain is supposed to go down with his ship and all, but man....

    Technical Shootout Question

Goalies are not allowed to play the puck past the red line. Thus, are ineligible to participate in a shootout.

    Craig Leipold buys Minnesota Wild

Something I think a lot of people are missing here is a simple business practice. When you are selling a business, you want to make it as marketable as possible. Understanding that there was a lot of interest in the team to be bought already, you have to look beyond the surface. Leipold knew the team was going to be sold, it was just a matter of to whom. As we are all aware, buying a team isn't like going to the store and picking out a shirt, it takes months to get details worked out. So there is no doubt in my mind that before Leipold sold the Preds, he also knew he would be able to buy another team. So he got rid of some larger contracts, and guys who could bring back pieces to help build the future. All this adds up to him saving some money (which no one can blame him for) and putting himself in a much better position to buy the new team. Leipold may not have a history in hockey, but neither did Illitch when he bought the Wings. Everyone can agree that the Wings are doing ok. Leipold LOVES hockey. He wants to see his team win. No, he didn't spend money on the payroll until later on, but he did spend a ton of money getting the franchise going. Remember, it's not cheap, especially when you are receiving a negative ROI.

    The Best in History?

I could have made a mistake, I'm not a math major! But here are my calculations, if I did something wrong, tell me. Detroit give up roughly 23 shots per game, Boston roughly 32. First, we will do Thomas. His SV% is .932. Inserting Thomas for his 28 starts on Detroit, he would face (28*23) 644 shots. This translates to (.068*644) 44 goals against. Assuming Thomas play 60 minutes in each game started he would have played (28*60) 1680 minutes. GAA is figuerd by multipling the number of goals allowed (44) by 60 and divide by the total number of minutes played(1680). So his GAA would be (44*60/1680) 1.57. Using the same formula here is how you get Osgood, and Haseks. Osgood, 23 GP .932 SV% at 32 SPG. (32*23)= 736, (.068*736)= 50, (60*23)= 1380, GAA is (50*60/1380) 2.17 Hasek, 22 GP .900 SV% at 32 SPG (32*22)= 704, (.100*704)= 70, (60*22)= 1320, GAA is (70*60/1320) 3.18 EDIT: The comparison was intended to show exactly how different Ozzie and Dom's GAA's really are, nothing more.

If you are going to eliminate Dom's 3 worst games, in order to make a legit comparison to Osgood, you must do the same.

    Craig Leipold buys Minnesota Wild

He will spend it just like he did for many years in Nashville. Only difference is in Minny, he will get much more ROI than he could have ever dreamed about getting in Nashville. Minny is a hockey city, Leipold is a hockey man. Look for Minny to do a lot of good things in the future. The 'trashing' of the Preds, if there was one, was due to the lack of local support. It goes beyond the lack of ticket sales. There was little support for the Preds. In fact, until it was announced that the team might be leaving, the 'support' it received was laughable.

    Craig Leipold buys Minnesota Wild

That's not how things work. Teams sign contracts with minor league affilates. I'm glad to see Leipold get a team that has a solid foundation. He has the bankroll to spend enough to make them a much better team, and he loves hockey.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

As much as I hate Dom, I do give him due credit for getting back on track. However, I still think Ozzie should get the nod in the playoffs because he is playing better than Dom. It makes ZERO sense to list reasons Dom should be the starter in the playoffs because he has done well in the past, but ignore his awful first few months. Ozzie has proven he is not only capable of starting and winning, but also that he deserves a shot in the playoffs. Regardless, I'm sticking to my guns. As I've said many times before, I don't think this team as is can win a Cup this year with Dom/Ozzie in net. The playoffs are a different story. Yes, the Wings are dominating the regular season. But lets not forget what happened in the 62 win campaign. The Wings need to fill the void that Markov left, and add some secondary scoring. Yes Flip and Rex are doing well, but they haven't proven anything in the playoffs. I realize they need an opportunity to prove themselves, but why not give them someone to take some pressure off? As far as the d corp goes, you can't rely of Kronwall to stay healthy, and past Lidstrom and Raffy, there is no one other than Kronwall who is capable of playing top 4 minutes. No Cheli is not, he is a great guy to fill the 5th/6th spot. Lilja is a turnover machine, and Lebda just isn't good enough either. To win the Cup you need a complete team. This Wings team is not complete. Again, REGULAR SEASON means nothing once he playoffs start.

    The Best in History?

Just for further comparison, if Osgood played on the Bruins, he GAA would be 2.17, still good enough for 8th overall.
  25. They had to move someone who was under contract next season to meet tagging rule requirements. But, they are pretty close to the cap as is, about $2 left. Enough for Selanna or Sundin, but not enough for both without moving someone who has a big contract. **COUGH dougweight COUGH**
