Its a law in the state of Michigan that a place that calls itself a bar or tavern can not have anyone inside of it after 9PM under the age of 21 unless they are "plainly marked as such." Basically, that's why if you are under 21 and go see a band at a club you get a big black X on your hand with permanent marker.

And from Hockey's Future, when he was with the Coyotes organization: "Gelech is a player that every team loves to have. He is very intense and considered an energy player. He is a good skater with decent speed. He is a tenacious forechecker and his size (6’3, 212) complements his works hard on the forecheck and around the net. He possesses soft hands and a nose that helps him find ways to score. He uses the body and finishes his checks. He has good overall ability and skill. He will earn his respect from his persistence and determination because he will give you the same intensity and gritty play every night."

Look on the bright side, Kp, its a one year contract, which means you can re-use your posts from this year to try and get him in the Winged-Wheel.

Meech would have to clear waivers if sent down to GR. There is no way that he would clear them, and he would be snatched up by another team that needs depth on D and has the cap space. I don't think that a 2-way deal prevents having to clear waivers, so that's not an option. I would imagine that if he doesn't distinguish himself in camp that he will be traded for a draft pick or a bag of pucks.

According to Spector, Stephen Weiss and the Panthers are going nowhere in their talks. As I don't know a heckuva lot about this guy, I was wondering if anyone here had any thoughts. He's listed at 5'11" 191 lbs and plays center. 20 goals last year with 28 assists. Personally, I'm pretty happy with the lineup we have now, but could this guy be the second liner we are looking for to allow Pasha and Zetts to play together on the first line?

He's fine. Move along. Nothing to see here.

I'm not seeing a bunch of people saying git'r'done with this one. The reason I brought him up is because he is someone I hadn't really heard much about and it appears as though he and the team that holds his restricted rights aren't getting far in their negotiations. I have seen a lot of people on here crying that Flip doesn't have what it takes ot be a second line center, and that Hudler is worthless. Although I don't agree with either of these statements, I thought I would throw this guy out for discussion. /soapbox on Frankly, if you don't liek the topic, start one that you do like. If you think that there is another player out there that we should take a look at, bring them up. I kind of look at it like this: if we did sign this guy we would add a proven, young, north american player to our roster that is capable of putting up some points and holding his own at the NHL level. So what if we gave up some draft picks. At least then I wouldn't have to see all the Euro-bashers here crying that we took another "soft euro" in the first round again. Now, you can either add to the discussion, or you can ignore it. But don't go trashing a topic that is as you said, not about Fedorov, or Kozlov, or McCarty, or Lapointe, or any of the other past Wings that we all came to love when they were wearing the winged-wheel. /soapbox off

Its actually drawn as a tribute to the large native american population (Indians, for you not-so PC people). Its in the styke of their totem poles.

And he can score goals Hat Trick

I can certainly appreciate "wanting to see what Grigs can do." But with our current lineup we have a lot of those "X" factors in there. X- Can Hudler raise his game? X- Can Filppula step his game up from last season and be a seond liner? X- Can Grigs cut it at the NHL level? X- Will our top forwards stay healthy? X- Who is our second line? Weiss is young (24), and at 191lbs, isn't a wisp of a guy. He's no Penner, but he isn't tiny, either. With his age he really is on the upswing of his career AND he's North American, to boot. While he's not from Michigan, he is from Toronto, which makes him sort of a hometown guy. Dunno, the more I think about it the more I like the idea. Rumor has it that Edmonton may put an offer sheet to him (M4)

I know that in my case it IS the economy. In previous seasons (not 06-07) I had usually been able to attend 3-4 games at the Joe and maybe 1 or 2 in Chicago. That would be usually 2 tickets- sometimes 4 per game plus parking, beverages, and gas to get from GR to DET or CHI and back. Last year I lost my good paying job at the start of the season to outsourcing overseas. The job I took after that was a 25% pay cut from my previous job. There went all of my entertainment money plus the cost to get a new car, which I desparately need. At this point, lowering the ticket cost won't even get me into a game. I have things I need to do for my family before I go to a hockey game. I'm not blaming Illich, but people do need to realize that the ticket prices aren't the be-all end-all in this situation. BTW- isn't Rafalski a home town boy? If the Wings really want to play on the hometown aspect, Rafalski would be a great starting point.

Personally I feel that the ratings from the finals this year are given way too much weight. Look at the teams playing! Ottawa, the red-headed stepchild of the Canadian teams versus Anaheim, a city known for Disneyland and Gwen Stefani. I usually watch the finals, no matter who is playing, but this year's were such a snooze-fest, I had a hard time caring. I think that the NBA suffered from the same thing this year. Cavs vs Spurs. Neither are what you would call traditional NBA teams from a big market, so it resulted in a snooze fest for people outside of those areas. I think that a rebirth on ESPN would be good for the NHL. It could at least replace the spelling bees, the eating contests, and the new, improved, super-extended sprtscenter edition with the "Who's Now" feature fiasco.

Maybe you are being delusional, just in a pessimistic way. While I don't go into a season expecting to win the cup every year, I do have the optimism that comes with a new season getting underway. I'd hate to think that you claim to be a fan yet think that we don't even have a chance at the cup before the season even starts.

Be careful. That one may come back to bite you

Holy hell. We have 2.5 months until the season starts, 7 months until trade deadline and you are thinking about who we want to get at the deadline? This board never ceases to amaze me. Could we maybe start the season first? That being said, I never, ever want to see Forsberg in a Wing uni. For some reason I could see Feddy in one, but that may be just because I have seen him in one before (actually, I have a signed 8x10 just across the room from me of him).

Nah we have Dom Hasek. 1998-99 GP 64 1.87 GAA- 9 SO- 0.937% SAV We don't need those losers.

Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks

I'm not too sure on Bettman being anti-Canada. But you can bet your ass that Canada is anti-Bettman. -
mo·ron /ˈmÉâ€rÉ’n, ˈmoÊŠr-/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[mawr-on, mohr-] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment. 2. Psychology. a person of borderline intelligence in a former classification of mental retardation, having an intelligence quotient of 50 to 69. Ducks fans everywhere would be offended by that statement if they could stop drooling long enough to be offended.

I'm actually thinking that the dull person is the one that delivers personal attacks and can't figure out how to use the quote feature. Let's take a look, shall we? Below are Norton's stats for all 6 games he played last year with the Wings. My favorite is probably the one vs the Kings where his TOI was 31 seconds. Also they have him for 2 shifts, one of which was the one he got in the fight and the other while he skated back across the ice to the bench from the penalty box. In the 6 games he played, he logged a total of 24:49 on the ice and 20 in the penalty box. Game G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG Sh Sh % Shft TOI PPP Oct 18, 2006 vs. ANA 0 1 1 1 5 0 0 0 5 3:15 0 Oct 16, 2006 vs. LAK 0 0 0 0 5 0 0 0 2 0:31 0 Oct 13, 2006 vs. BUF 0 0 0 0 5 0 0 2 0.0 5 3:15 0 Oct 11, 2006 vs. PHX 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 12 9:58 0 Oct 7, 2006 vs. PIT 0 0 0 0 5 0 0 0 8 5:16 0 Oct 5, 2006 vs. VAN 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 2:34 0 Oct 5 vs VAN, Loss 3-1 Oct 7 vs PIT, Win 2-0 Oct 11 vs PHX, Win 9-2 Oct 13 vs BUF. Loss (OT) 3-2 Oct 16 vs LA, Win 3-1 Oct 18 vs ANA, Loss 4-1 (Norton got assist on the only goal of the game and got a shoulder injury which put him on the DL) 6 games and we got 7 out of a possible 12 points. Next 6 after our enforcer was on DL: Oct 19 vs SJ, Loss 5-1 Oct 21 vs EDM, Loss 3-1 Oct 24 vs SJ, Win 2-1 Oct 27 vs DAL, Win 4-3 Oct 28 vs STL, Win 3-2 Nov 1 Vs CAL, Win 3-2 8 out of 12 possible points PLUS the Wings won the next 5 games following these matches all without a dedicated enforcer on the team. Once again, I am not saying that we shouldn't have a bona fide tough guy on the team, just that it is not a requirement for winning. In 1983, we drafted Probert, Kocur, and Grimson all in the same year as Yzerman. Considering that those were our last 3 real deal enforcers, its pretty obvious to me that we need to grow these guys in-house. With all the draft choices that have been traded away in the past dozen years or so, I don't think they felt that they could throw a draft choice away on an enforcer-type. Now that the organization is dedicated to growing talent in-house as opposed to signing overpriced FA's, maybe we'll see a change.

The problem with pointing at that stat and saying that he wasn't a liability doesn't even begin to convince me that Norton wasn't a liability. When he was in the box for a stupid penalty, how many times did the Wings get scored on? How many times did the opposing team look at him and his lack of skills in the fighting department and NOT become intimidated? If he wasn't looked at as a liability by Babcock, why was he started at a forward position when he played defense in Grand Rapids? But we're not debating Norton here, are we? You have your view that the Wings need an enforcer. You are entitled to that opinion. I am of the opinion that, while it would be nice to have a dedicated enforcer, it is not necessary to win and succeed. Time will bear out the validity of these statements, eother for or against my position, but you, sir, madame, or whatever you are, will not convince me that it is a requirement of winning to have success throughout the season and the playoffs. One more thing, learn to use the quote feature.

He's actually talking about 07-08, not the past.
-
So who would you take? I'm all for a guy that sticks up for his teammates, but he has to produce. (Think Shanahan type guy here) Asham is not a guy that does that. The others that have been brought up here are not that type of guy either. So, who is it? Who is out there that can be a productive member of this team and add some actual point production and not take up a roster spot that is better served by geting some valuable experience for one of the new guys? I await your response O sage of all things tough and enforcer-like.

TSN scouting report on him has him listed as a C/LW.

Not a low blow, really. I love the guy and would hate for him to get into the same trouble that he got into when he was with us the last time.
