I seem to remember back around 1998 when the Wings signed a defenseman away from their rival (think dog sledding). We paid him a whole buncha money and he ended up being a bust. Schneider was injured at the end of the playoffs. We don't even know how his wrist comes back next season, and the Ducks just ponied up $11 million on a guy with a monster- albeit random- slapshot with a bum wrist. Someone start sending Matty dog sledding magazine subscriptions. Rafalski is a nice upgrade to Matty. I don't see any reason for us to be angry. Go Schneids. I always hated playing against LA because of him back in the day, and now I can really watch him give the puck up to us instead of giving it away to the opposition.

Jakub Kindl- Potential Elite NHL’er?

Jonathan Ericsson has got a bit of a nasty streak it appears. -
The Claude Lemieux trophy, for the most hits taken to the back of the head while assuming the turtle position. The Theo Fleury trophy, for the most appearances in EA Sports NHL game without actually being an active player. The Mikael Samuelsson trophy, for the player voted by the league goalies as the one they would most like to have shoot 100 times per game on them.

Maybe because ummmmm Nylander isn't signed by the Wings? Homer/Datsyuk/Flip (Flip played well with Dats when Zet was injured) Sammy/Zets/Bert (Right handed left winger- no Shanny but at least he has a shot) Franzen/Hudler/Grigorenko Cleary/Draper/Malts Lidstrom/Lilja Kronwall/Quincey Lebda/Chelios Arguably we have 2 1st lines there and not a first and a second. I am just using the guys that we have signed or expect to sign. Notice no Schneider, no Markov We'll see how it shakes out.

Every season STARTS injury-free. Its just the actual season part that seems to screw him up.

Last I heard he was last seen wearing a rain slicker and muttering something about Gorton's.

Mullets always make people look angrier than they are. I think its because they are pissed that someone told them that "all the Canadians wear their hair like this."

They'll still be sold before too long. Legionnaire was talking about a local group of richie-riches that wanted to pump their family money into the team to keep them in Nashville. It just means that we will probably be going through the same thing all over again in another 5-10 years when the new owners realize that Nashville (with the exception of some 10,000 die-hards) doesn't get hockey.

Say no to Guerin. Arrgh I can't stand that guy, and at 37, he really doesn't have much left in the tank. I'll be happy if we keep Schneids and Bert + get the new call-ups some NHL ice time, and maybe add a second tier signing like Kozlov. Question though, if Kozlov comes back, will he try to take number 13 back from Datsyuk? He's been in the league longer, and IIRC, the guy with more time in the league traditionally gets the number.

Well the cup is substantially shorter than Pronger, who is 6'6". Its simple physics that says that he couldn't help applying an elbow to Lord Stanley and driving it into the table. Don Cherry says that we need to leave him be. He's a good Canadian boy that is playing a strong game. Accidents happen. If the Stanley Cup had just not turned his back to Pronger then this whole thing could have been avoided.

Considering that I lost my lst job to outsourcing and took an $8,000 a year pay cut going to the new job, I don't foresee this tax ffecting me for couple years at least. Meh, this state is fubarred. If I wasn't stuck here (my wife owns a small business in Grand Rapids), I would have been moving south a long time ago.

I take a bit of umbrage at the statement above. Yes, this is a gate driven league. Yes the cap has gone up the past couple years since the new CBA went in. The issue I take with this is that teams like Nashville are the teams that are forcing the ticket prices up in markets like Detroit (the top 10 support the bottom 10, right?). So the way that Iook at it now, it is the teams like Nashville that are really holding the league back from being able to make a larger investment in the marketing of the NHL. Instead they are habing to use all that money to support the Preds, the Coyotes, etc.

There is a major difference between the NY/NJ area and the Toronto/Hamilton area. The Toronto/Hamilton area is in Canada, where a majority of the population eat, sleep, and breathe hockey. NY/NJ eat, sleep and breathe the Yankees, the Giants, the Mets, the Jets, the Nets, and the Knicks. Hockey is a distant 7th place in the contest. In Hamilton it would be number 1 on the list.

Maybe instead of swapping our current boys for new ones, we could get the Wings to hire my wife as a nutrition specialist. She seems to get bigger every year

Awwwww did you get sand in your mangina? Its sports, its not real life. Yes it sucks. Yes the ducks- or at least the goons on the ducks- rub me the wrong way. But I can get over it. The best thing about sports and being a fan of a team (as we all are) is that there are the good times to look back on and the good times to look forward to. But if you keep letting your ire get up because a team that you don't like won the cup then you will be disappointed more often than not. Other people we hate that have their names on the cup: Claude Lemieux Patrick Roy Rick Tocchet Bill Guerin Scott Stevens Peter Forsberg All people that we love to hate. We just love to hate Pronger more- especially cause he's so stupid. Training camp starts in September.

Watch the avatar. Relax. All will get better.

While I agree that today doesn't rank way up high in NHL history, IMHO the worst day in NHL history was the day that Bettman took the reins. Now... watch my avatar for 20 seconds. If you don't at least crak a smile then you need to go to bed or have a drink.

I honestly never heard of anyone being termed an offensive liability. That has to be the most ludicrous thing I have ever read. Defensive liability I can understand, but offensive? Malts has a role to play, and he plays it very well. he chirps at the other team, gets under their skin, draws penalties and kills penalties. He does not have to scorer's role, so any offense that comes from him is just a bonus/
-
Please explain your reasoning that he is an awesome penalty killer, plays physical and then at the same time is a liability on the ice? Do you argue with yourself all the time? Or just whenever you don't have a valid point?
-
Ask yourself one question: "Do you want to play against Maltby?" If the answer is no, then he belongs on our team. Hit positive +/- in the past rarely came from him scoring the goals himself, but by the other players that were out there with him scoring (plus a few well placed shorties). Its not like his game has fallen off (much) but the players that are on the same line with him that have changed and had lower points in their own game. This doesn't even count the fact that they are often sent out to shut down the top line on another team. I would say that being only -9 isn't all that bad when you are out there against one of the top 2 lines of a team almost every night.

To answer the original topic posted a bit more seriously, the one thing that I would change about the NHL would be that Gary Bettman is running the show. The man has done everything he can to ruin the game that I love. A thousand slow, painful deaths to that man.
