Burnside has us in 7. He has become a Believer!

We may have to wait about 15 years to get them into a Red Wings uni, but these guys play with some serious grit! Youtube

Samuelsson - Time to give the guy some kudos

He did get manhandled in the first 3 games of this series, or did everyone forget that he played in the first 3 games? Sammy is a much better choice in this series. -
Out of Market for tomorrows game? Too bad...

If you don't even attempt to make your voice heard, then it is you that are doing nothing, not them. I can certainly understand about being turned off by past events, but you need to use your voice whenever you get a chance. -

I started a topic on the NBS message boards. You can access it and add to it HERE. You don't even need to join to post. Let'em have it! -
My wife, who was not my wife yet, bought me a game-worn Maltby jersey in 96-97. I still have it and love it to this day. Maltby has always been one of my favorite Wings. He doesn't score much, he doesn't hit as hard as he used to, but we all slow down over time. Maltby is a Red Wing through and through. I am shocked that some of you here (to paraphrase Ron Wilson- you know who you are) don't have enough faith that Maltby will make the right decision if he is unable to contribute to the team and retire. This 3 year contract virtually guarantees 2 things. 1) A valued Red Wing will get to finish his career as a Red Wing 2) No other team will pick him up during this time to gain his leadership and experience in their locker room.

He was on the ice later on in the same game IIRC. I'd hate to see him knocked out, as he has been the goat on several Red Wings goals.

From Free Press Looks to be confirmed. $550,000 per year towards the cap for 3 years.
-
I am watching this game with a guy that is an AHL ref. He didn't see any hook there.
-
Personally I couldn't care less that some teams can't afford gto spend the cap. If they need money to spend up to the cap then they should foster the growth of hockey as entertainment in their own market. I don't blame Gary Bettman for this (this may be the only thing that isn't his fault). Of course, if he hadn't been behind the massive expansion that took place in the 90's, then we wouldn't be looking at teams in Tampa Bay, or Florida, or SJ, or Anaheim right now. Some of these franchises have been massively successful, and they even play some pretty good hockey, but some of these franchises (like Tampa) can't even draw a crowd into their arena when they win the Stanley Cup! The people in these markets are saying that they don't want to see hockey. So move or shut down the teams. Bettman needs to get out of the NHL and let someone with a true love and understanding of the game run things.

GAME 3 (4/30): Red Wings @ Sharks- 10:00 PM ET

Dom's doing it right. Hold the puck slow the tempo of the game a little. -
Looks like its going to be Bert, most likely. Bertuzzi impresses on the No. 1 line

You sound like the Shark fans over at the Feeder Forum. By the end of today's game they were calling for Marleau to be benched the next gane, Guerin to be benched, and Ron Wilson to be fired. I wish I could understand this, though. You put a new sentence on its own line. It makes your posts look longer. Its too bad for you that they don't make you look any smarter.
-
I think that the point about this kind of complaining is that the NHL is struggling to maintain and improve its image and its fan base. When the "OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE" doesn't even care enough to make sure that the statistics that it posts are accurate, then it really doesn;t put their best foot forward.

PS 2007 Photoshop War: Red Wings vs Sharks
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Saran's topic in Hall of Fame
Dats13, when you are trying to post your image, forget all the html that you have ever learned. You need to use BBCode, so put a "[" followed by "img", then another "]" At the end of the image, use "[" then "/img" then another "]" Remove all quotation marks and extra stuff and you get your image. Edit: Have no photoshop at work but this looks like some good fodder- 588 replies

Dear Mr. Bettman, I would like to point out that the officiating that took place in game 6 of the Red Wings/ Flames playoff series was the absolute best officiating that I have seen all season long. The referees let the playersplay hockey. They were near invisible, but stepped up and made the call that was necessary at the time. This is the first game all season long that I didn't sit there scratching my head at a call. If it was obvious, it was called. If it was incidental, it wasn't. Please give the Red Wings the same referee crew for the rest of the playoffs. Thanks, Me.
-
For the most part what I saw was incidental contact. I didn't really even see anything but a Wing at least making the attempt to not steamroll Kipper. Hell, our goali is breakable too. Why would we want to start that? I don't think that it is our fault that Kipper was being a wuss about being bumped around a bit. He is welcome to flop and dive on the ice if he thinks he is being moletsted. Oh well... he's golfing now. So he doesn't have to worry about someone bumping into him.
-
Just for reference, I happened upon the ESPN NHL playoffs page about 30 seconds ago. According to them, the GAA leader for goaltenders in the playoffs is, get this, JAMIE MCCLENNAN!! After all he has a 0.00 GAA for his 18 seconds in the crease, so he MUST be the GAA leader. ESPN for the win!!!!!11!1!eleven!
-
I honestly didn't have a problem with the call on Homer. He was skating backwards, he got into the blue paint, he MAY have bumped Kipper a little. The refs sent the message that no contact was going to be tolerated early. It was funny though, when Kipper got hit by one of his own players' stick and he flopped down screaming for a call. I wish we had scored on that one. I want the players to decide the outcome of games. Not the refs, not Gary Bettman, not the networks. The players. This game allowed the players to decide the outcome. The calls in OT, every one of them, I agreed with. I have never had that happen before.

ESPN lost all interest in hockey the second that Disney divested itself of ownership interest in the Ducks. Disney being the parent company of ESPN made the decision that they don't like the NHL anymore, so none of their networks were going to do anything to promote it. That being said, I no longer watch ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, ESPN 360, and certainly don't watch "The Ocho," ESPN 8. Any network that puts a priority on eating competitions :puke: and spelling bees over the NHL does not deserve to be called a sports network. They have become the CNN or FoxNews of the sports world. They obviously have their own agenda that they push. I am glad that NBC and Vs. stepped up and signed to broadcast the NHL. I think it was a good move for Vs., as it gives them a lick of credibility. I have found myslef watching more of it lately, though you can only watch Roland Martin's Fishing Adventures so many times, and killing Bambi really isn't my cup of tea either. I have a couple requests, though, to the broadcasters of both networks. 1. Learn the players' names and how to pronounce them. Leeleeya does not play defense for the Wings. 2. Learn that the Penguins are the Pittsburgh Penguins, not "Sidney Crosby and the Penguins." 3. Realize that Brett Hull does not know everything. 4. Do not be afraid to question a call by a referee. Last night's game was the best officiated game of the playoffs that I have seen.

Pre-GAME 6: (4/22) Red Wings @ Flames - 9 PM ET

Something just disturbing about that picture. Almost NSFW-esque. Got my Bernie shirt on. Wore it for the game yesterday and I won't be taking it off until the game is over tonight. GO WINGS! -
Is this some thinly veiled threat? Is Babs FINALLY getting to the point where he is thinking about sitting guys that don't produce? He obviously doesn't have a problem sitting guys that DO produce (Rex). We all think that we could do a better job than Babs. I really don't think I could- hell I know I can't, but I can certainly see when a guy is struggling and needs a bit of a wake-up call. Babs does it verbally, I give them some time to think about it (like a day off in the playoffs).

When you start with a 20% FO win %, then there really isn't anywhere to go BUT up! The other enters on the team: Flip: Game 1 66.7%, Game 2 no FO's taken, Game 3: 50% Dats: Game 1 59.1%, Game 2 56.5%, Game 3 45.4% Drapes: Game 1 66.7%, Game 2 41.7%, Game 3 53.8% Zetterburg: Game 2 50% It looks like he is the 4rd best. As I stated earlier, if I just saw the guy WORK HARD out there I wouldn't be so against him. I do agree that Sammy should be the one sat, though.

I am sorry to say that Lang is hovering around the 30% mark in this series. So the faceoff side of things, at least when it comes to Lang, is a detriment, not a positive.
