Burn of the Decade: Hossa was right to join Wings

BewareThePenguin is the new Duck Guy? -
This scares me more than anything else right now.

Goaltending equipment made out of Tempurpeda foam? More than likely it is that their goaltending coach teaches that part very well. Just like how our net presence has been aided by Holmstrom's example and others on the team watching him over the years and learning.

The call was, most likely, a reaction to the refs watching out for Kronwall in those after the whistle scrums. Walker saw his chance to get a little "justice" and dove in behind Kronwall, grabbing him by the collar of his shoulderpads, and yanked back several times rather violently. The refs were obviously keen on the idea that the Hawks were going to try and get some retribution and were watching the Hawks like, well hawks! I put the blame for the meltdown squarely in the lap of Quennville. This guy has always lost his temper when a game doesn't go well for him. Watch him on the bench. Every time I see him I think that he's about to have an aneurysm and stroke out right there on the bench. He coached Pronger when Pronger was new in the league. Does anyone out there think that he may be responsible (at least partially) for Pronger's lack of maturity when a game isn't going the way he wants?

Jake is actually a stealthed Penguins fan. The proof is right there, cause he doesn't know anything about hockey! BTW Homer made a sweet diving play to stop a shot on goal in yesterday's game. Go back to Hannah Montana re-runs you little turd.

OMFG 2,250? Not that we can't do it, but sheesh! I don't think they need that much help.

And so it begins... http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=275025 No wonder Helm is practicing with that line.

TSN Reports Draper out first 2 games of playoffs
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Mickeyisms Rule!'s topic in General
We have other guys that can and do win faceoffs, but our margin of error is dropped a bit if the main faceoff guy gets yanked due to "cheating" on the draw. As far as the puck possession side of it, we may actually be better off 5 on 5. Draper has been brutal this year in about all but his faceoff win percentage. -
Round 1: Comparitive Stats for Detroit and Columbus
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Not to pee in anyone's Cheerios, but even though the Wings only let in 4 SH goals all season, fully half of them were scored by Rick Nash. He is the linchpin for the whole series for CBJ. How he performs is how the team goes. -
We need to look at this differently. One of the reasons that we are in cap heck at the moment is that even if some of our older guys retire now, their cap hit stays on the books because they signed these contracts after age 35. Now, here's Ken Holland signing these younger guys to long term deals that should get them to their retirement, and if they retire earlier than the end of their contract, the cap hit comes off! This IS genius.

Someone pee in your Cheerios this morning?

What the Thrashers thought about Osgood tonight.
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
One of two things is happening here. Either 1) your knowledge of hockey, its play, and being able to recognize situations is sorely lacking or 2) you didn't watch the game as closely as you could have. There was maybe one of those goals that Ozzie would want back, and that would be the third one, where he let the puck squirt through to the other side of the net and gave Stuart an open net to shoot. Otherwise, the other goals that got by him were the result of puck movement and really good scoring chances. I've been against the idea of Ozzie starting in the playoffs for most of the season- until now. As long as he plays like he has in the last 4 games in the playoffs, we'll be just fine. It is painfully obvious that Ozzie had zero confidence in himself earlier this season. It is good to see him focusing on positioning and keeping his head in the game. I noticed it last night, even when the puck wasn't in much danger of being shot on net, he was precise in his positioning and moving crisply in front of the net. He kept himself in position to make a save even when the Wings had possession. -

Americans invented baseball because they found that cricket sucked. There are baseball players from Japan, latin America, the US, and Canada. It doesn't exist only in the US, but I can certainly understand if people that don't understand the game find it boring. Personally, I'd rather watch paint dry than watch baseball. Playing it is another story- though sometimes even when playing the game it can be interminably boring. I'd still rather watch a baseball game than watch soccer.

Every time a punch lands there will be a puff of dust.

I'lll be happy if these guys just retire - exception to Homer, of course.

You obviously haven't given up on your one man campaign to rid the team of Hudler, but I need to point something out. You get no compensation if you aren't going to negotiate with Hudler- this also requires that another team is going to make an offer sheet for him. No offer sheet = no picks. Now, let's say that we make a qualifying offer to him and he takes it? Oops (according to you), now we're "stuck" with him. I also wonder where you think that Hudler would cost more than Franzen? Franzen is UFA, so most likely there will be a number of teams seeking him out for next season. Hudler strikes me as a guy that is much more committed to the success of the Wings than his own pocket. I could be very off base on this, but I see Franzen as less a team guy and more willing to seek out the best thing for him. He's UFA. He's going to test the market. I think we can all see that you are seizing on this opportunity to try and get people to agree with your assessment of Hudler's value to this team. I seem to recall that you had something in your signature last season about Hudler that was less than flattering. Now you have your tongue-in-cheek "Hail to the Euros" in your sig. If you really think that letting the player on our team walk that is ranked 54th in goalscoring, 49th in assists, and 44th in points in the league (and has played every game this season, I may add) is a good idea, I can only thank the hockey gods that your name is not Ken Holland.

Wings Would Like To Re-sign Kopecky
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Heroes of Hockeytown's topic in General
As someone stated above, Kopecky is not the problem on the 4th line. He's also begun to play on the PK, and is doing well in that role. It also probably has something to do with Hossa. Hossa stated in Ansar's article from last night: If resigning Kopecky means that Hossa is more willing to stay at a comparable deal to Zeke's, then this is a win-win. Full Article -
Osgood proves he doesn't deserve No. 1 spot
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Wingsallwin's topic in General
I'm not too sure what color they are, but since they make you see something like it was in the past, I wouldn't mind a pair so my wife seems skinny. All kidding aside, though. Yep, continue to play Osgood and we can continue to have to work way too hard to win. I'm not advocating Conklin playing 100% of the games from now until the end of the season, but he should play more of them than he is. Osgood has given up 12 goals in his last 7 periods of hockey. That's almost 2 goals against per period! It's absolutely brutal and I just can't stand to watch it. -
Osgood proves he doesn't deserve No. 1 spot
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Wingsallwin's topic in General
I am not thinking of just last night's game. This has been building throughout the season. Last night's showing was just the last straw. I absolutely can not stand watching Osgood wave at shots as they go by him. Someone above said that Conklin has not been hung out to dry like Osgood has. This is not true, and if you really are honest about this and not look at the ice through Osgood-colored glasses you will agree with me. How many times when Conklin is in goal has he come from one post to the other and made the stop on a shot that would have been a goal in most circumstances? See video below for an example. Kronwall isn't giving the puck away in front of the net only when Osgood is in there. That's the only thing consistent in his game! The goalie needs to make the stop when the defense breaks down. As Conklin has, to this point, been better at making those stops, he has earned the majority of starts. -
Osgood proves he doesn't deserve No. 1 spot
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Wingsallwin's topic in General
If the defense sucks so badly, and I do admit that they aren't as dominant as they were last season, then how is it that Conklin's GAA and save% is so much higher than Ozzie's? Eventually you need to stop pointing the fingers everywhere else. There are enough fingers to point at both the defense and at the goalie. -

No. You do a reality check. Is Osgood playing at anywhere near the level that he did last season? Osgood has played 2 more games than Conklin. His GAA is .98 goals per game HIGHER than Conklin's. Conklin's saver percentage is .917 to Ozzie's .880. 2008/09 Ty Conklin DET 24 16 6 1 653 54 2.31 599 .917 5 0 0 2 1,400:57 Chris Osgood DET 26 15 4 6 693 83 3.29 610 .880 0 0 2 6 1,515:23 Last year during the regular season, Osgood's numbers were stellar! 2.09 GAA and .914 save %. He EARNED the spot in the playoffs by being the best goalie on the team. Conklin is earning that now. 2007/08 Chris Osgood DET 43 27 9 4 976 84 2.09 892 .914 4 0 3 0 2,408:53 You're not going to win the Cup with the type of play that Ozzie is exhibiting. In fact, Dom got yanked from the playoffs last year with BETTER stats than Ozzie is showing now. 08 playoffs Dominik Hasek DET 4 2 2 0 89 10 2.91 79 .888 0 0 0 2 205:58 I love Osgood, but he simply isn't playing like he has in the past. The frustration that members here are showing is justified. -
I watch every game, as long as I am not working. I have only missed two games all season, BUT... The Wings style of play is such that it has a tendency to bore you to sleep at times. This is especially true on a west coast trip when the games don't start until 10:00 or so. I still love them. But I have to admit that the game last night against Dallas was the most exciting game of the season. Part of this I attribute to Downey being in the lineup, but mostly it is Steve Ott and a few of the other Stars stirring things up and the history that we have with them from last year's playoffs. On a side note, this is the first day off that I have had in a long time. When did CNN get the porn queen newsreaders?
