The NHL isn't ruined yet, so I would say we have a bit longer.

No Red Wings on All Star starting line up
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Don't get your undies in a jumble. The ASG voting is obvious fraud, probably by the NHL itself. When you vote for ASG participants, you vote for both conferences. It wouldn't accept your vote otherwise. If you look at the vote numbers for each conference, even allowing for some variation, you would find that the Eastern Conference received about a 60% higher number of votes than the Western conference. Even if the text voting allowed for only a single vote to be placed, the numbers are still skewed. If the UN was observing this election, even they would have problems with it. -
If, by the term "people," you meant tweens that are texting madly on their Go Phones right now, then I would agree with you. If you meant the general public, I would disagree. Remember that this board is not just frequented by a bunch of WoW playing teens and tweens, but by people from several different countries, whose native language may or may not be English. If you butcher English like that when posting, you exclude a large number of our readers here from participating. Firefox has a spell checker built-in if this is a problem with your personal abilities on an educational level.

Wings got the talent, but what about the coaching?
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to FourtyThirteen's topic in General
The Big 3 were near the tops in the world for a long time- maybe someone should have been questioning their leadership a bit earlier than now (just using your avatar to make a point). -
Riiiight... like Illitch, who is FROM DETROIT, would ever move this team out of Detroit.

Guess I better start burning up my 10 flex tix before Ville gets called up, eh?

Of course that's what average means. This year they are averaging 28 shots allowed per game. Since that number is higher than last year's 23.5, it stands to reason that they are giving up more shots per game to ALL teams, not just "the team with the best record in the NHL". Playing 2 more games than the nearest team, as long as you are a competent team, would allow you to amass more points, on average. If you take the numbers that I used here and compared them to the other teams as well, you would see that it goes across the board. Since it appears that you had trouble reading my entire post, here is the Crib Notes version: 1. No more Hasek, so a moot point. 2. Goalie doesn't need to be the best in the league in the past, just needed to stop 20 or so shots. 3. Many more shots on goal= more goals scored. 4. Not a goalie issue, it's a team issue. 5. Babcock good coach, Ozzie team guy. 6. No one panic, we are actually on pace to equal last year's point total. Edited for type-O

You're right- he was third in the league in 05-06 http://stats.theahl.com/stats/statdisplay....amp;lastActive= The other guy on his line, Donald McClean, scored 56 goals that season- most of them set up by Jiri.

Hasek wasn't Hasek last playoffs, and he has retired, so we may just want to move on. I tend to agree with many others here about the sheer number of shots the Wings are allowing on net this season so far. The Wings have not needed their goalie to stop 30+ shots a night. There was only one goal that I would classify as a "bad goal" last night, and that was the one that was scored from behind the net when Ozzie didn't seal off the short side and the puck bounced off his elbow and in. Last night the Wings allowed 32 shots on goal. Last season they allowed an average of 23.5 SOG/game and allowed 2.18 goals/game. If you extrapolate the numbers to allowing 32 SOG, then there should have been 2.96 goals scored- with the one bad goal that equals 3.96 (or 4, because you can't score 4 hundredths of a goal). Why is it that when the team is playing really well and clicking that it is the team doing it, but when the team isn't playing well that it is an individual's fault? I find it funny that people often pick on the wrong people. If you look hard enough, I am sure you could finds a case for replacing just about every one of these guys for one reason or another. I think that Babcock knows what he is doing, and that Ozzie wouldn't do anything to hurt the team. Babs will pull Ozzie if he feels that his play is a detriment, and I think Ozzie would venture so far as to pull HIMSELF if he wasn't able to perform. Let's not get too crazy here. We have 7 out of a possible 10 points so far this season. That works out to 114.8 points for the season at the current pace. How many points did we have last season? 115. Kinda looks like we are on the same pace- just going through a bit of a tough time getting things together. The Wings aren't dominating the other teams like last year so far. Give 'em time.

Waive Sammy! Wait... he got a goal?

Sure he could! All you have to do is paint a goalie's chest protector on it.

Zetterberg out vs. Vancouver; Helm recalled
Mickeyisms Rule! replied to umredwing11's topic in General
Hmmm... only takes me a couple minutes. Anoyone else think they are obsessing a bit? I mean... how long can it take to make sure your groin isn't funky? I may have missed the entire point of this topic. -
Oh that's right... I forgot there is no joking around allowed on an Internet message board.

You're allowed to be wrong. As it stands now you are looking at their potential and saying that it has come to fruition. While they stand the chance of being better hockey players than the 2 you mentioned, they aren't there yet. They'll both get called up before the end of the season. Maybe just for injury stints or after the roster limit changes towards the end of the season. They're not going to rot and go bad playing in GR. They might even get better. Helm needs to work on keeping possession of the puck when he is skating and Leino needs to work on protecting himself and the puck. Especially in Leino's case, learning how to protect himself in the corners and near the wall may be more important to the longevity of his career in the NHL then making the big team right out of his first camp. (edited for typo)

Someone pee in your Cheerios this morning? When you are the GM, please feel free to get rid of all of our veterans in favor of whoever you feel skates fast and is the new flavor of the month. Until then, quit your crying. If you really want something to ***** about, start rooting for the Blue Jackets or the Blues.

As a proud holder of 10 flex tickets for Grand Rapids Griffins games, let me thank Kenny Holland for giving me something to watch!

While Maltby never has lit the lamp like he did in juniors (as Mickey is fond of pointing out, he was a 50 goal scorer in juniors), he remains a strong penalty killer and an excellent, in limited minutes, defensive forward. Watch him when he is on the PK. His first step or two have to be as good as anyone out there. It seems that when there is a loose puck near him, he is the first person to get there more often than not. On top of getting to the puck, he can be counted on to make the smart, safe play, and get the puck out of the zone instead of trying to pass it to another member of the PK group still in the zone. He's not flashy, doesn't score, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have a role. While some have claimed that he may not be in the top 4 of defensive forwards on this team, he is still a guy that we can rely on to go out there and kill penalties and allow the better defensive forwards (who, by the way are also our best OFFENSIVE forwards) a chance to catch their breath so they can score. I wouldn't want a rookie in there doing that. It's a spot where a veteran that may have lost some top speed and doesn't hit like he used to can still provide a needed role.

Leino is not ready for the NHL yet. Close... but not yet. He needs a little time down in GR to adjust to the different play in the corners and to improve upon protecting the puck with his body when he is carrying it or is along the boards. He could also use some time to improve and gain confidence when he goes to the net.
