I recieved this news from USA Hockey, sounds like a good time to get some pictures and possibly autographs. If anyone else finds out any other information on this please post it below.

The Detroit Red Wings will celebrate Hockey Day in Michigan on February 10, 2007 with an open practice free to the public. The practice will be open to all fans who donate one piece of youth hockey equipment or a $5 donation. All equipment and funds will be donated to inner city youth hockey programs.

"Hockey is Fun" Clinics at the Joe Louis Arena

High School games at the Joe:

Friday, Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. - Ladywood vs. Cranbrook Girls

Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. - Marquette vs. Livonia Stevenson

Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. - Sault Area High School vs. Dearborn

Two college hockey games will be televised on FSN Detroit, including Alaska at Western Michigan at 4:35 p.m. and Michigan vs. Michigan State at Joe Louis Arena at 7:35 p.m.

Suburban Ice - East Lansing is hosting a Bring a Friend to Learn to Skate and the FUNdamental Program. The Greater Lansing Area Hockey Association has four games being played along with two high school games and a Michigan State Club Hockey game against Oakland University. The Grand Traverse Hockey Association will hold the second annual Skillympics Games, a venue for the association's players to showcase their individual hockey skills in five areas. Structured in the tradition of the Olympics Games, the Skillympics Games bring players together in a controlled format with an intense atmosphere and exciting essence of Olympic-style competition. Following a dazzling Opening Ceremony and Parade of Athletes, players participate in Skating, Passing and Shooting events. Goaltending and Team Speed events round out the competition. Novi Ice Arena is creating a hockey atmosphere with a "Wear your Favorite Team's Jersey" open skate to receive a discount. For those who want to participate off the ice, there will be contests divided by age level; an essay contest on your favorite player/team and a drawing of your favorite player for prizes to be determined.

The Onyx Ice Arena in Rochester is planning on having two coaches games (mites/squirt and pee wee/bantam) and a skills competition for the kids. During the week prior, players from each team will compete to see who represents their team in the finals on Saturday. The Fundamental program players will have a chance to win a prize by writing an essay on "Why I love to play Hockey" or drawing a picture of their favorite player.

The A K.O.H.A Broncos Bantam team is going to start Hockey Day by watching the hockey movie In The Crease before watching Western Michigan and Alaska warm up. The Bantam team will prepare for their game against the Ann Arbor Wolves and top the night off by going to Lawson Ice Arena for the first game of FSN's college doubleheader when the Broncos play the Nanooks at 4:35 p.m.

GRAHA in Grand Rapids, Mich., announced plans to celebrate Hockey Day in Michigan at the Patterson Ice Center. Griff, the mascot for the Grand Rapids Griffins, will skate with the Learn To Skate and Learn To Play/Cross Ice players for two hours starting at 9:00 p.m. In addition spreading knowledge of the game, a blood drive will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in hopes of getting donors for the local community blood bank.

The University of Michigan Women's hockey is hosting a game on Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Yost Ice Arena against "Team Irish", a team comprised of mostly former CCWHA players from Western and Michigan State. Former Olympian Lisa Brown-Miller also plays for Team Irish. The University of Michigan Alumni game is Feb. 11 to conclude the University of Michigan Women's Hockey Alumni Weekend.

The Kensington Valley Hockey Association Mini Mites #6 (Team Cavalry) are going to play a game against the parents at the Hartland Ice Arena at 4:45 p.m. on Feb. 10.

The Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association is hosting the Jeff Bourne Hockey Classic on Sunday, Feb. 11 at Yost Ice Arena. All proceeds benefit Hockey has Heart: Hockey people helping hockey families in need. The game features the Red Wings Alumni versus the University of Michigan Hockey Alumni led by Red Berenson. This annual event celebrates Jeff Bourne's love of the game and honors his commitment to youth hockey in Ann Arbor. By selling 100 tickets or more, two hardworking AAAHA teams will win the opportunity to play the Red Wings Alumni during intermission. There will be a Silent Auction, with items donated by area businesses, USA Hockey and the NHL Players Association. Tickets to this fun family event are only $5. Doors open at 4:30 and the puck drops at 5 p.m. Come watch your favorite Red Wings and University of Michigan greats, and support Hockey has Heart.

The Michigan High School Hockey Association is putting on the fifth annual high school showcase at the Kennedy Ice Arena in Trenton, Michigan, Feb. 9-10. This is the largest high school hockey event that takes place in the State of Michigan and features some of the top high school hockey programs such as Novi Catholic Central, Orchard Lake St. Mary's, Brighton, Cranbrook, Brother Rice, Trenton, Marquette, Traverse City and Farmington Hills High Schools. The Livonia Hockey Association will be hosting MAHA D-4 Hockey Day beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Feb. 10 and continuing through 8:00 p.m. The District Championship games will be taking place at Eddie Edgar Arena. There will be many extras for the hockey player in us all. Hockey Has Heart will also be displaying their baskets and selling tickets for their upcoming event on March 17, 2007. The Amateur Hockey Association of Mount Pleasant plans to celebrate Hockey Day in Michigan with a Grand Rapids Sled Wings game from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the ICE Arena. If you have never heard of the Sled Wings, they are a truly amazing group of handicap athletes that play hockey on specially designed sleds. Check out their website at www.grsledwings.org.

The Grand Valley Amateur Hockey Association (GVAHA), Georgetown Ice Center, Grand Valley University Hockey, Highly Advanced Technologies, LLC, Don & Patty DeCorte and Action Water Sports are teaming up to provide a weekend of hockey fun. Activities include a one-hour hockey clinic for 10+ individuals (4-12 years old) to experience the excitement of playing organized hockey for the first time at no charge. The hockey clinic will be held on February 10th from 11:00 a.m. - noon. GVSU Hockey instructors will teach the clinic. Full equipment packages will be provided for the participants and will be made available for future use to any participant in the GVAHA developmental programs free of charge. In addition, free admission to the Grand Valley University Hockey vs. University of Iowa hockey game on Friday, Feb. 9 at 9 p.m. is being provided for all clinic participants and current GVAHA players. The Plymouth Whalers will be hosting the Windsor Spitfires at 7:05 p.m. at the Compuware Sports Arena on Feb. 10. In addition, the Whalers will be honoring Compuware Youth Hockey Teams with captains of the Compuware House League participating in a ceremonial face-off. The Compuware Youth Teams will be honored during one of the intermissions as well.

Suburban Ice - Farmington Hills has a day full of Hockey Day celebrations including raffles, contests and giveaways to go along with the on-ice action. Games include the Walled Lake High School women's hockey team at 8:30 p.m. as well as the Suburban FUNdamental league and Farmington Hills Hockey Association. There will also be savings on skate sharpening and registration for the Beginner Adult Developmental Hockey League Drop-In as well as free popcorn for those making purchases from the Snack Shop. FYI, last year they did a "24 hours of Hockey" at Lawson. There was a WMU game, KOHA games, and the rest of the time (including all night) was filled with a continious drop-in game. It's sounding like that's going to be the case this year too. Edited by Gizmo
