Brodeur's acheivement

I am too lazy to read all the other posts, but the few I read seem to think Marty isn't all tht great. Put him in a Wings jersey, and I bet we'd have won at least 4 more cups. That being said, regardless of opinion about the record being broken, it's GREAT for hockey, and something that is awesome, is Parent is all for it being broken. He doesn't care about extra wins coming in OT or a shootout, so why should anyone else? Afterall, it was his record.

If everyone were going around saying Brodeur was the greatest goaltender ever, then the whining about being overrated might be justified.

But he is easily one of the greatest goaltenders of this era.

Exactly...I think there's room for a middle ground somewhere between "best goalie ever" and "overrated product of the system." I left him off my top 10 players since 1980 list (Hasek and Roy were my two Gs), but there's absolutely no doubt that Brodeur would've been my next choice--and I would put him in my top 10 all time, but probably not top 5 and definitely not #1.

If I had one must-win game and could pick any goalie from my lifetime to drop in the crease (I'm 27), no doubt in my mind it'd be mid-90s Hasek. In his prime, he was the best I ever saw. But if my opponent in this hypothetical game went with Brodeur, I wouldn't laugh.

Let me just point out there is a HUGE difference between slightly discrediting (your previous posts do not convey the intention of slightly discrediting Brodeur) someone and labeling the same person overrated. I understand the arguments some have made here, I don't necessarily agree, but I do understand. But calling Brodeur overrated is laughable.

games played are nice but the guy had it a hell of alot easier than dom did. dom was a one man army in buffalo. marty, not so much. his games were substantially lighter in workload.

i havn't even read the replies beyond the last few. no point. for everytime someone even slightly discredits brodeur, there's a member of the herd there to jump all over it. f*** it...

Man! you must really hate Brodeur. Were not arguing that Dom isn't one of the best goaltenders of all time. All were saying is you gotta give credit when credit is due.

Marty Brodeur = ONE of best goaltenders ever.
