BringHomeTheCup! 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 He's all of the above, but we have enough money for one big player and he is not a player of the type which we need. I know you're all nostalgic back to the days in which we could go out and buy Smyth ON TOP OF the strong, physical slot forward which we need, but remember that those days are no longer with us. Saying "this guy is good" is no longer a reason why we should sign him; rather, these days, it's "this is the player we need to spend our cap space on." Smyth is not that player. Note that your comparison of goals scored is irrelevant, as Homer has proven that he is a top performer in the "new" NHL. He has matched Smyth in production in the two years since the lockout. Any surprise at this on the part of color analysts is irrelevant. Well, I think you missed the point of my last post. I don't think the Wings should go after Smyth. I did say Smyth is a better player than Homer. There is no doubt that Homer just isn't as good as Smyth. My recolection of color analysts surprise in Homer scoring 30 is relevant. It brings to light that Homer shouldn't be scoring 30 goals, and what an accomplishment for him that really is. I think the biggest difference between Homer and Smyth is this. Homer can put up good numbers if he is playing with the right cast. Smyth can do it with a poor cast. Homer is a good player in his own right. But he is no Smyth. To say that Homer has matched Smytm since the lockout just isn't true. Homer put up 59pts and 52pts respectively. Smyth put up 66pts and 68pts respectively. It isn't a whole lot, but remember, Smyth hasn't played with one guy as good as Hank or Pav. While Homer has played with both of them. Just so we are clear, I don't think that signing Smyth is something Kenny should, or will do. I think what this team needs in a sniper.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted June 7, 2007 yes, but that image still haunts me to this day. Go and try to backhand in a puck while falling, and with Chris Pronger draped all over your back, all within a .5 second window, and then tell me how easy it is. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 when i say on the ice i mean having them both is not a good idea It'd be sweet if we had both , they'd be in front of the goalie at all times. Every shot Lidstrom would take would go in off of one of them. He'd win the Norris for sure that way
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) The next time you decide to ridicule someone, you might try to avoid writing like a moron whilst doing it. Ludacris.. hahaha. Thank you, Crymson. Without you correcting everyone’s grammar and typing skills on here where would this place be. I was not trying to ridicule anyone, just trying to be humorous. I am sorry that through all the knowledge you gained in typing skills you some how lost your sense of humor. Or maybe you just did not think it was funny! It would not be the first time I said something that may have been funny in my head but when it came, it did not work out so well. Like I said it’s slightly improbable that we will obtain Smyth, if we could why would anyone not want him? To have two bodies in front of the net on two different lines would be fantastic. As we watched from the playoff's when Bert attempted to work the goal it was not very effective. Edited June 8, 2007 by IceMunkee
glasgowcelticwing 18 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 i agree but homer is a better fit for us on the ice and finacially Homer is a great player that's playing well for the team at a reasonable price . Smyth's a good player, but if we signed him it would basically push the Wings to the max salary cap and I would much rather the money is spent elsewhere. Guest jaytan Report post Posted June 8, 2007 no let bert, calder, lang, and schneider go..... Awesome idea! Then we could be the ninth seed like Colorado was this season, and we wouldn't even have to worry about those nerve-wrecking playoffs!

I'm glad we are in agreement; now, can we please get down to removing that broomstick from your behind? I've been waiting here with the equipment for hours.
