Some thoughts on the first period:

-The Ducks look mighty sloppy. They're having a hard time getting anything going, which isn't being helped by all the penalty calls, but they certainly don't look like Stanley Cup champions.

-The Kings, on the other hand, look fast and feisty. They will be a pesky little team to play against this season. I don't expect them to make the playoffs, but they will give teams some fits.

-It's been one period, and I'm already sick of the penalty calls. If this keeps up, it's going to be a long season...

Good pace, but I agree, the penalties are *ridiculous*! It's not like the refs are being paid by commission, there's no need for SO many calls. The stoppages in play for throwing people in the box every couple of minutes defeats the purpose of making the NHL a faster, more offense-oriented game.

Is this game on regular T.V. anywhere other than CBC? I checked NBC (golf) and Versus (college football). What kind of half-arsed crap is it when the NHL makes a big deal about starting overseas and no one in the U.S. can see it live without CBC/Center Ice?
