savaking72 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2007 Yzerman was at Notre Dame's Blue/Gold game tonight as a guest speaker. It was pretty nice. He spoke about 10-15 minutes. He was cut short when ND took the ice, and started practicing (He was speaking behind the rink). After speaking he was mobbed by about 400 people looking for autographs (including me)! I was one of the lucky ones...I got my Yzerman Jersey signed on the nine. I couldn't believe how nice he was. He just took his time, and signed the merchadise. Some of the people there were jerks. After Steve signed something they just turned, and walked away. Did not say anything. No thank you, or anything. After he signed my jersey I said thank you Steve, and he looked at me for a second, smiled, and said "...Your Welcome"! I was so mad. Here he has done so much for Detroit, and hockey. All people can do is walk away after he has given his time...he deserves more than that. I really appreciated his time here, and it was an awesome moment in my life to meet one of my favorite idols. His signed jersey will be on my wall forever! If anyone is interested in hearing Stevie: http://und.cstv.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/082907aab.html Notre Dame says they will have it one their site sometime Thursday. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted October 11, 2007 That's awesome. Glad you got to meet him. I was thinking about coming up there for that, but that's as far as it got. LOL Anyway maybe people were too stunned to say thank him. Maybe they were in awe of him.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted October 12, 2007 Congrats on getting to meet Stevie Y. That has to be an unforgetable experience. Not to mention, you got to meet him at the best place in the world - the Notre Dame campus. Maybe Stevie's "winning aura" will rub off on the football team this weekend. Hank 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2007 I'm jealous i want to meet Steve! Great story. When I was younger I got to meet Paul Ysebaert at an autograph signing at a local mall. After getting his signature I asked if I could shake his hand (yeah, I'm that big of a nerd). He looked pleasantly surprised and said "Sure!". It was a huge thrill for me and I still have the memorabilia. I've been to other signings and like you said, a lot of the guys are kind of jerks about it not saying 'thank you' at all. Paul Ysebaert, wow that's a blast from the past. I got to meet Steve in the lobby at Grand Traverse in 98, I was so star struck I almost let him walk past me, but I managed to ask him for his autograph. He said: "Sure, you have a marker with you? " I said yeah and he signed my jersey, I told him that I hoped they had a great season. and he said thanks, I hope we do too. Very, very, VERY cool guy!
