Goal after missed goal

Ok when I was watching the ducks/wings game the other night and (I forget who) on the wings fired one of the post, that looked like it went in and play continued leading to almost a goal by the ducks and then back to almost one for the wings before the whistle. What would happen if the play stopped due to a goal being scored(either side)and they went upstairs and the first one they thought hit the post actually was in. Would both goals count???

Hope that kinda makes sense......

Thanks

Nope, only the first goal would count and the clock would get reset after that goal. It would be like the other goal never happened.

I've seen this happen several times in the NHL and IHL.... can't see it in the AHL because there is no instant replay or video allowed to make calls like this. How stupid is that? Training for the NHL, but not using the same technology and rules they do. But that is for a different topic.

And Hank is right. Once the play is reviewed, if the first questionable goal is deemed to be a goal... then any play after that fact is null and void. They change the scoreboard to reflect the proper score and set the clock back to when the goal was scored and move on as if anything after that moment never happened.

I really wish the AHL would adopt this... I've seen where it could have changed several games over the years. But that's just me.

Did anybody actually see a replay of the shot? I did not see FSN replay it. The least they can do is prove to the fans that the puck didn't go in

No... The problem was that a lot of time elapsed until there was a whistle for a stoppage of play. My guess is that someone in the FSN truck looked at the replay and didn't see anything, so that combined with the passage of time (plus no one on the ice seemed to think it was a goal), made it not newsworthy by the time the finally could have shown it. Well after a goal being recalled in nearly every game, I don't want to take any chances :P I would have preferred to see a replay rather than trust the words of the referees who were the target of erm.. quite a lot of criticism that night ;)

See if anyone remebers this...

This actually occurred in a Wings game against the Blues a few years ago... near the end of the regular season, before the lockout I think. The Blues came down the ice, scored, but the ref didn't call it a goal and play went on, even tho the Blues players on-ice began to celebrate. The Wings sent it down Ice, and the Blues marched right back up the ice, and put the puck in the net AGAIN. They went up stairs to review it, and saw that the first goal was actually a goal, and they reset the clock.

It was pretty neat to see.
