Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 I think you're wrong about that last part. There's always GM's who need to either make the playoffs or go deep to keep their jobs and if giving up a good portion of future to get Mats Sundin will help them get another contract, then there are some that will do it. GM's remember the Keith Tkachuk's and the Ryan Smyth's that didn't work, but they also remember the Mark Recchi's and Doug Weight's that did. Besides, there's about five or six teams behind the Wings in the West that probably figure they'll need Mats to beat Detroit, so they'd probably take a run at him, too. Mats is one of the most clutch players to play the game (3rd all-time in game winners with 93, 1st all-time in overtime goals) and teams salivate over players like that around playoff time. It's true. The French have a saying about Mats: "He so money he don't even know it. Pass the cheese wheel" Honestly people- Sundin isn't a broken foot Forsberg or a Tkachuk or Smyth. Sundin is a freaking force out there. He's a hands down, no questions asked, here's your damn ticket, Hall of Famer.
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Contrary to what you might infer from birthplaces, Kubina is essentially Rob Blake but younger. He doesn't use his ass quite as much checking but they play fairly similar aggressive styles. Nasty in front of the net, decent outlet passes, and a bomb from the point. I was actually referring to Sundin with my comment. But wrt to Kubina, he's probly gunna be cheaper than Blake or Foote (and is also a right shot which is important). Having said that, a top 4 of Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall and Blake/Foote looks a hell of a lot scarier than Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall and Kubina. That is unbelievably racist. I can't fathom how one's nationality has anything to do with his ability to play hockey Check where I live mate I'm not even going to go into different cultures and different sporting styles. norrisnick 1 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 That's why I wouldn't mind sending Kronner, & a 1st to the Leafs for Mats (only if he were to retire a Red Wings). You're forgetting that losing Kronwall will have a bigger impact than adding Sundin. Contending teams that make deals at the trade deadline do not remove integral pieces from their roster. It just doesn't happen. And believe me Kronwall is integral. If Kronwall had a right-handed shot he'd be our #2, but since Raf is a righty he gets the primo slot next to Nick ES and on the PP. This is true, even in hockey, lol. Kronwall will not be going anywhere but ATL if you ask me, unless a 3 team deal takes place....

You bring up valid pts. I dont recall offhand what the Weight and Recchi deals involved. You are right, there will always be some desperate in one form or another. My bad on my wording I still don't believe that Holland falls under the category of desperate at this point in time. In regards to Sundin, remember he has a NTC. We still don't know whether or not he will actually waive it. All comments made thus far, leave it up in the air. However, if he decides to waive it, it will be to teams of his choice. I don't see him waiving it for teams that are just trying to make the playoffs, rather a team that has a real shot of doing something in the playoffs---so that would narrow the field down. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Sundin in the winged wheel. I don't believe we will see it happen if the proposed trades that have been mentioned are true. I don't see the Wings giving up Kronwall, nor 2 out of the 3 in Fils, Hulder and da Mule plus a top pick.
Opie 308 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Here is a thought for you: Last night during the Bruins game the announcers mentioned that a source from within the B's front office told him that with the B's being on the playoff fence that they may not make a move. If it looks like they are in they will stay with what they have, however (here is the interesting part for you) they said if they are not in, they will look to make a few moves and if they do, PHIL KESSEL will most likely be the player moved!! any thoughts on that?
