So our pickup of Todd Bertuzzi last year wasn't really the big impact we hoped for, but check out this article. Pretty interesting factiod. Makes you a little better about what we did. At least we got the biggest gain out of it - playoff wise ;-)

Yeah, but the majority of those players traded either didn't make the playoffs, or went one and done. The Wings didn't go 3 rounds BECAUSE of Bertuzzi, but he was able to "amass" 3 goals because the team played so much longer.

By the way, true impact players occasionally score 3 goals in one game, not over multiple playoff series.

The vast majority of deadline-deal players last season did nothing for their respective teams. Ryan Smyth may have helped the Islanders make the playoffs, but he didn't do anything IN the playoffs; Tkatchuk was worthless; Guerin was worthless; Forsberg was worthless; &c.

In terms of the investment, Bertuzzi probably DID have the biggest impact--and that wasn't much.

You missed the point entirely. The point was NOT Bertuzzi = playoff success for Wings in '07, the point was major deadline acquisition ≠ stanley cup.
