Opie 308 Report post Posted March 19, 2008 http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AgBA...o&type=lgns Wings 4th behind SJ, NJ, Ana 4. Detroit Red Wings (47-20-6, Previous: 2) – First you’d have to determine who is the backup? Chris Osgood has gained the bulk of the starting assignments based on the fact he’s had a better year statistically and Dominik Hasek has been in and out with injuries. It’s a 1A-1B situation in Detroit where, sure, a goalie can have a bad series but the team doesn’t feel like it has to worry about what it’ll get in goal come playoff time. lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted March 19, 2008 gotta say, this ranking doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me ... they say ozzie and dom are 1a and 1b, obviously meaning either could be the starter/backup, and then they rank them behind weekes, boucher, and hiller? how would any of those guys, obvious backups, rank ahead of dom and ozzie who are both legitimate starters? interestingly, i saw a similar thing, i think on espn.com, ranking the backups for the likely playoff teams, and they didn't even mention detroit's backup, i guess because they didn't consider either of them a backup ... edicius 3,269 Report post Posted March 19, 2008 Those rankings make no sense whatsoever. Hiller? Weekes?
awingsincebirth 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2008 THe Yahoo Power Rankings really confuse me. Are those Overall Power Rankings, and then they just add a little blurb about the goaltending of ever team?? Or is it Power Ranking based on who has the best goaltending situation in the league?? Basically, is it saying that we are the fourth best team in the league, or we have the fourth best goaltending in the league?? It's not really specified. BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted March 19, 2008 I don't think the debate should be about our goalies... It should be about the first three "CRUCIAL" backups that are mentioned in this list.
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted March 19, 2008 This list doesn't make any sense. They say it is about backup goalies, but they talk a lot about the starters, as well. Maybe they were going for goalie tandems, but then wrote the intro. wrong.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted March 19, 2008 Dude, Sharks should be number one in Power Rankings right now, and I will even conceed 2 to NJ. The ducks shouldn't be higher then Detroit when they lost Pronger to suspension and Detroit just got back on track. I mean if they were previously ranked higher I would say well, it makes sense Detroit is going to overtake them, yet this isn't the case. Perhaps they are giving them a power boost for Burke lobbying to keep Pronger from getting the suspesnion he deserves. That dick gets all the breaks.
McCartyFanForLife 17 Report post Posted March 19, 2008 The Power Rankings are McKeon's rankings of the teams. The theme this week is backup goaltenders. The teams aren't rated by best goalie situation, how well they've been playing. The teams are ranked, then he looks at the goalie situation. At least that is my understanding. I agree it is a stupid way of doing it
