Schneider vs Kronwall

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I was just looking over the defensive scoring stats and noticed that Schneider and Kronwall are having very similar seasons statistically. Schneider has played in one more game, has four more points (all goals though), four more penalty minutes, and is +21 compared to Kronwall's +23.

I always kind of figured them as similar players and penciled Kronwall in as kind of his replacement. Just thought this was interesting and would help take the sting out of losing Schneider last summer, if anybody still feels it.

I thought the addition of Brian Rafalski more than made up for the lose of Schneider.

Krownvall having a great year is a total plus!!

And Schneider is old anyways, he is not worth 5.6mil a year. Our defense is certainly better now than it was last year.

He's still good. One of the best powerplay defensemen in the game if you ask me. 5.6 is alot, but if he wasn't hurt last playoffs, we might have had a shot at beating Anaheim.

interesting post, thanks.

I'm not sure I can ever get over trading away Avery for Schneids anyway.

I know trading away a locker room cancer and P.O.S for a pp QB with a great shot, what in the hell was LA thinking!

Rafalski is the one who should be looked at as Schneider's replacement.

Kronwall was here last year. Sort of.

Exactly.

If we are dicussing whether or not Kronner filled in enough for Scheids, and not discussings Raf's role... well, that's win-win. Then throw in Stuart and our D is waaayyyyyy better than last years.

I do miss Schneids, though.

Is it just me, or is Kronwall more impressive the more major his role is?

He looked just fine out there last night but he did make a few mistakes that he's made many times before. I noticed when Lids and Raf were out he was better than I've ever seen him before, and he really stepped up his game knowing he was the number 1 defenseman. If he can continue to play like that when he's got the number 1 billing I won't go in to complete panic mode when Lids retires.

Before anyone says it, No this has nothing to do with Lids being back and Kronwall not looking as spectacular because Lids makes everyone look subpar. This has to do with the level of play Kronwall elevated to when thrust into the number 1 slot.

I didn't know that we didn't have a shot against Anaheim.

Everyone knows that. I think what hes trying to say is that Kronwall is playing so well now - and Schneider is in the twilight years of his career - that Kronwall can now be looked at as a comparable comparison to Schneider, making Rafalski almost like a bonus player.

I was disapointed with losing Schneids especially to the Ducks . but it's worked out really well for us . we got rid of an aging defenceman who at the money he wanted would have put a big dent in our salary cap . we traded up in getting Rafalski and now Kronner is also getting a chance to shine . with the addition of Stuart and the potential that we have with Ericsson , Quincey , and Kindl we have a very solid Defence.

I agree he improved drastically when asked to step up. It was exciting to see.

Good topic. I was just saying to my friend how happy I was with Kronner's play this season about two months ago. To find he has similar stats to Schnieder was very interesting. I personally feel that Kronner is a little bit better due to his ability to lay the body. Last night for example he had some really nice hits. Schnieds was not much for physical play. To me they both have a high injury risk. I think the value with Kronner over Schnieds is 1. He is younger. 2. More physical. 3. Faster. 4. Did not sell out to the phucks.

Man, I can't get used to a positive thread! :) It is great. OUr D is strong, without counting Stuart's broken finger. Damn!!!
