Playoff Brackets

Once all the playoff series are set, what do you guys say we do some sort of playoff bracket for the First Round, then the second and so on. Sort of like the weekend picks game the Aussie made.

Honestly, im too lazy to make it. Once everything is all set, if someone wants to make it that would be great.

And there should be some sort of point system, and maybe even go on the weekend picks points? or maybe not because there are some that started the picks late (me).

What do you guys think?

My roommates and i did this last year. it was a blast we should all do it.

Maybe someone who is good with code could make a web one were we could all put in our picks and it could show everyone on here what we picked and where we are in the brackets..... something like what can be done for march madness brackets.... this could be a lot of fun

If you loved the Weekend Picks game that Aussie_Wing had, you'll love this playoff edition. Mods, if you deem this as worthy, I would really appreciate you pinning this thread.

Here's how it'll work:

Each round you will pick a winner for each series. For every correct series winner you predict, you will receive 5 points (0 if you pick the incorrect team). Also to aid with tiebreakers you will also pick how many games the losing team in each series will win. Given that the team you picked to win actually does win the series, you will then have the opportunity to receive up to 3 bonus points. For every game you are off for the losing teams actual win total, I will subtract 1 bonus point. After each round, every player will then pick again based on the teams the made through to the next round. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season, wins Playoff bragging rights.

If any of your are confused, I'll do a mock picks example:

NFM#25's Mock Picks

Detroit 4-2 over Calgary

Anaheim 4-3 over Minnesota

Vancouver 4-3 over Dallas

San Jose 4-2 over Nashville

Buffalo 4-1 over NYI

New Jersey 4-1 over Tampa Bay

Atlanta 4-3 over NYR

Ottawa 4-3 over Pittsburgh

Let's say this happened in the first round:

Detroit won 4-3 over Calgary

Minnesota won 4-3 over Anaheim

Vancouver won 4-3 over Dallas

San Jose won 4-3 over Nashville

Buffalo won 4-0 over NYI

NJ won 4-1 over Tampa Bay

NYR won 4-3 over Atlanta

Ottawa won 4-0 over Pittsburgh

Here's how my point total would work out:

DET/CAL = 5 Points + 2 Bonus Points

ANA/MIN = 0 Points

VAN/DAL = 5 Points + 3 Bonus Points

SJ/NSH = 5 Points + 2 Bonus Points

BUF/NYI = 5 Points + 2 Bonus Points

NJ/TB = 5 Points + 3 Bonus Points

NYR/ATL = 0 Points

OTT/PIT = 5 Points + 0 Bonus Points

Total first round score: 42

Feel free to post any questions, and remember that your picks must be in *before* the first puck drops tonight at 7:00 ET.

Best of luck to everyone, and I'll post my picks shortly.

Here are the Matchups based on their respective ranks

WEST:

(1) Detroit vs. (8) Calgary

(2) Anaheim vs. (7) Minnesota

(3) Vancouver vs. (6) Dallas

(4) Nashville vs. (5) San Jose

EAST:

(1) Buffalo vs. (8) New York Islanders

(2) New Jersey vs. (7) Tampa Bay

(3) Atlanta vs. (6) New York Rangers

(4) Ottawa vs. (5) Pittsburgh

I do like that NFM, but is there a way to get it done with some cool bracket graphics.

I wish I would have paid attention in programing class.

Sure I can do playoff bracket graphics, but keep in mind that an NHL playoff bracket doesn't work like the NCAA Basketball Tourney.

Since teams are reseeded after each round, making a playoff bracket generally doesn't look to pretty after even round 1.

Well its easy because you just re seed the teams each round. it still ends up looking nice.

If you really have your heart set on me putting a bracket up after each round than I will. If Matt doesn't mind, mayb I'll use his.

Sidenote: You're really intent on that....aren't you?

Here is the latest and greatest.

Basically the "NHL BRACKET 2008" tab is the correct one; i.e. the one with the right outcomes.

You fill out the "My Bracket" tab.

You can calculate point totals per round.

I'm gonna try to keep improving so let me know if sucks or works and all that good stuff.

Point Totals:

5 Points for correctly guessing the winner of a round

up to 3 bonus points depending on how you guess the # of games outcome. (For every 1 game off of the loser's total, you lose a bonus point). Pretty simple.
