Cup Champions to Come from the West

Funny you should post this. A friend and I were just chatting over msn about this same thing. The East is to up in the air, and besides Brodeur, Elias, Shanny, Drury, Jagr, Gomez, and most of Carolina's roster, there's really not much Stanley Cup success over there or a real clear choice as a favorite. I'm not convinced Montreal and Pittsburgh can go to far YET, and Ottawa's had goaltending problems all year.

The West has Detroit, San Jose, and Anaheim as favorites.

Edit: Sorry if I jinx anything, but I think the Finals may be Wings-Rangers, based on playoff experience and knowing what it takes to win it all.

There is no doubt in my mind. I said it last year, and I'll say it again this year, because things look pretty much the same. Barring some unforeseen miracle, or if Marty Brodeur absolutely stands on his head in the finals (which is not out of the realm of the possible) the West champion will win. We're a better conference over all, we're tougher, grittier, and our best teams play a better TEAM game, and have significantly better defense. In any given game, any team can beat any other team. However, in a 7 game series, I'd pick Detroit, San Jose, Anaheim, hell, maybe even Calgary, over anyone in the East. Maybe I'm biased, but look at the Finals last year. Wasn't even a competiton. Ottawa just got owned, and they looked like a second tier team up against Anaheim.

THE WEST IS THE BEST!
