Quick Question

I am reading the book by Kevin Allen, What it means to be a Red Wing.

I couldn't help but notice there is no Gordie Howe, I got through the Sixties, didn't see his name, thought well that is odd, so I took a peek at the ToC and couldn't find his name anywhere.

Does anyone know why Gordie didn't participate in the book?

Was it because of his book?

BTW, so far the book is a good read, I love reading what some of the old timers had to say about Adams breaking up the team the year after the cup, 9 players were traded away!!

For those of you who appreciate what we are witnessing now, it is a good read because it talks about winning all the cups and then the break up of the team, and how all of the chemistry was gone. Makes you hope Holland and Co. are history buffs and try not to repeat that disaster!

maureen wouldn't let him?

seriously though. i have no idea why.

but i got that book for xmas last year and love the crap out of it!

I've been wanting that book for a while, but am reluctant to dish out 30 some bucks for it, only because money is scarce, not because it wouldn't be worth it.

I for one am glad you bring this up, I remember last year in an interview Holland an Illitch talked in great detail that they LIKE to and WANT to keep their nucleus of players around for as long as they can because THEY believe that chemistry trumps many aspects of hockey. It's the reason why they've kept as many players as they could for long periods of time i.e. Lids, Cheli, Malts, Homer, Drape, Ozzie and even thes relatively new group of Lillypad, Dats, Zata, Cleary(now) and probably even Sammy along with Flip.

As Wing's fans we expect the best but even I had had to get over the fact that players like Lilja and Sammy are staying on this team, because of chemistry.
