datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 any tennis fans in here? if so, what do you guys make of federer's sudden lack luster play? is he done dominating? typically once tennis players lose their air of invincibility they never dominate the same again. thoughts? Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 Ana Ivanovic! Yeah, she's amazing. My favourite player! Anyway I'm a huge tennis fan. I'm actually loving Federer's recent decline and I hope it continues. I've never been much of a fan as I find him arrogant. You're right though, he just doesn’t seem invincible anymore; there’s something about his game that’s lacking at the moment. I think it’s mainly due to his movement as I think he’s moving a bit sluggish and he’s not getting to balls as quickly as he has in the past. He used to always be able to pull out a ridiculous shot from nowhere that would turn the rally upside down, but lately that hasn't seemed to be happening. I'm not sure whether his days of dominating are over. Personally I don't think they are, but I'm saying that mainly because I still fear him as I know what he's capable of. He won't win the French Open, and on grass Djokovic and Ancic will prove to be major threats. There's a chance he might not win a Slam this year! Who would've thought that at the start of the year? He won't win the French Open, and on grass Djokovic and Ancic will prove to be major threats. There's a chance he might not win a Slam this year! Who would've thought that at the start of the year? i just love the way federer plays. there has never been a more pleasing player visually, the way he moves and hits and his amazing angles and passing shots. that's why i love to see him play. i think you're spot on about his movement, but even more than that, i think he's scared now. he's playing scared. and his amazing passing shots that used to seem so effortless he's not confident about any longer and sends them wide or misfires altogether. i'm not sure that i find him arrogant. i think he's actually gracious. he's been very confident in interviews, but being one of, if not the most dominant tennis players ever to pick of the racket requires that confidence. the tennis player i can't stand right now is djoko. now he is cocky. his whole family is annoying. i just remember them in the australian open this being such babies about the crowd and adjacent boxes cheering for the other side. and i hate it when djoko eggs on the crowd or beats his chest and sticks his lower jaw out after a point. i like how federer is understated and seems to take most things in stride. djoko's just a rolling ball of testosterone. i'm with you on the slams. it wouldn't surprise me. obviously the french is out of the question with nadal and the way djokovic moves i think he'll be a true threat on clay this year (although his respiratory issues will be more evident on clay). the us open is djoko's, he's far and away the best hard court player in the world right now. feds only chance is at wimbledon. it'll be interesting to see how he plays on grass this year. you're right, nobody could have predicted this slide. although when djokovic pushed fed in the us open final last year, i thought fed looked scared. djoko is definitely in his head. i'm even questioning sampras's record. that doesn't seem a given for federer any longer either (and most people were saying he'd tie or break it this year!) a strange turn of events, indeed. seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 ^^^ Agree with you about Federer. Not one of my favorite players, but I do love to watch him play. It's practically poetic. I haven't been paying too much attention to it so far this year, but I was very glad to see Roddick get his 2nd career win against Federer. I'm actually a big Lleyton Hewitt fan too. Hewitt's my favourite player, he and Ivanovic. Nice to see Hewitt get a win in the Davis Cup yesterday, dropping only the 1 game in 3 sets. I'm a bit the same with regards to Roddick. Really funny guy, and I like it when he blows up at the umpire like he did against Federer in Miami. Was classic!

Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 i haven't been watching the davis cup, who are you guys playing? We're playing Thailand, second round Oceania/Asia tie. Hewitt won 6-0, 6-0, 6-1. Guccione just won. We're up 3-0 now though, so hopefully back to the World Group. James Blake defeated Paul-Henri Mathieu in five sets! Big win for him and it puts the US up 2-0. Russia lead 2-1 over the Czech Republic. Tomorrow it's Andreev v Berdych in a repeat of their match in Miami just over a week ago. Cmon Berdych! Then Safin v Stepanek. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 evidently roger's hired jose higueras as a coach on a trial basis. maybe the french will be his redemption. And has reached the final of the Estoril Open, but the field wasn't flash at all. He'll face Davydenko in the final. I don't give him any chance of winning the French Open. I don't give him any chance of winning the French Open. yeah, he's had enough trouble just trying to get to the estoril final. it'll be interesting to see how the clay season plays out. i'm especially interested to see who djokovic is going to do. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Well that was an anticlimax, Daydenko forced to retire early in the second set after losing the first. ATP Masters Series Monte-Carlo starts tonight.

ATP Masters Series Monte-Carlo starts tonight. davydenko was up a break in the second when he retired, too. federer could easily have lost that match. in fact, given his poor mental discipline so far this season, i think odds are better tht he would have lost the match after going down a break. i think monte-carlo will tell us a lot more about the state of federer's game. datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 well, federer's barely squeaked by th 135th ranked rubin ramirez hidalgo in the second round of monte carlo. i guess his first title hasn't rounded out his game at all.

Can't believe he managed to win, but what a terrible performance it was. That's the worst I've seen him play. What a choke by Hidalgo, how can you lose from being up 5-1? Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 26, 2008 Well it's a Nadal/Federer final as Nadal cruises past Davydenko and Djokovic sends us a blast from the past as he retires once again. I like him, a lot, but this retiring business has got to stop it. I'm tipping Nadal in straight sets.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 27, 2008 Nadal it is, in straight sets 7-5, 7-5. Struggled at times and didn't play his best but played some great tennis in the latter stages of the second set when it mattered most. Federer raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second set but lost concentration and Rafa barely made an UE for that point onwards. Another MS title for Rafa! Another MS title for Rafa! i didn't see it, but it looks like the match was federer's to lose. up a break in the first, and up 4-0 in the second and 44 unforced errors. looks like he choked but shows he's pushing nadal on clay. seems like he's finding glimpses of his excellence, at least. i'm excited for rome, hopefully i get some matches on tv over here. if federer can continue to find his game, maybe he'll be a true threat to nadal at the french. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 Good win he had over Federer! Nadal lost early to JCF but I think it's actually best he got some rest because he's still playing Hamburg which starts tonight. Djokovic takes the title, his 4th Masters Series title and his first on clay. He is quickly becoming the best player in the world, in fact I think he's a fair way ahead of anyone this year.
