Kcjacoby 10 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I'm glad somebody could find the time, because I could have watched that third period 100 times over, I would have never found that. I simply don't see what you're seeing I guess. That play looks nothing out of the ordinary to me. I played it in super slow motion and all I saw were two players turning towards the inside of the ice, Sakic trying to get to the left of his puck carrier so he can fly up the left side. Franzen was focused on the puck carrier and wasn't looking where he was going, he shouldn't have to. I didn't see Sakic make a beeline, I saw him trying to skate up ice faster so he could join the rush. Also, if you watch it in super-slow-motion like I did, it looks like Sakic is trying to avoid the hit, not make it. If he doesn't jump forward at the last second it is a collision. Kind of funny how I took a Sakic cheapshot attempt and turned it into a "thank god for Sakic jumping out of the way" but in my eyes that is exactly what happened there. It's probably the awkwardness of the near-collision that got you thinking otherwise. Hey Textbook... I wanna say thank you, I'm a frequent downloader of your work over on the torrent sites! Thanks for all your work!!!

va Winger 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I don't see anything really flagrant. I realize desperate players do desperate things to try and change momentum or get a break from the tireless pressure of a dominating team. I think tonights contest will be much more of the same. If you can't match skill and intensity, some teams and or players will try just about anything to get some kind of edge............I do have great admiration for JS and would be very shocked if he actually was attempting to injure ................................ Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted May 1, 2008 Since there was no injury...lol a little...however if he had connected and taken Franzen out for the playoffs with a bum knee, he should have a suspension...and maybe one fight coming to him from a similar player... I do feel this was deliberate, however its just one play in an otherwise exceptional career. I havent lost all respect for him or anything....i just am pissed at this incident and hope it doesnt resurface. I think Joe must be extremely frustrated and acting out of character. My mistake, I guess it was Franzen, not Datsyuk.....but right now Franzen is our MVP, it would have been disastrous if he had connected. Ths FOX Detroit feed was from the other side of the ice than TSN i think. It was far more clear, close up, and from the opposite side of the ice maybe on TSN. On HD we rewound it and we looking right at Sakic with his knee coming right out at Franzen....but whatever, noone was hurt, thats the main thing. I would like to think it was a harmless play, but watching Joe lining him up from across the ice last night in HD, it looked like there was nothing but deliberate action. Overlook this one, but if there is another similar attempt, even if he doesnt connect...bye bye respect for one of my fav players. No goon tactics on either side.....Wings in 4! What the heck are you talking about. He didn't try to knee him. Take your slappy glasses off and get serious.

Hank 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) One play does not a classless player make. Yes it's horribly dangerous, yes it's really stupid, but my bet is that in the heat of the moment Sakic probably just did it without thinking. I am by no means condoning said action, I'm just saying you can't take away everything the guy's done because of one boneheaded play. Not only that, but I've been in situations like that where you're trying to line up a hit and when the guy moves, you have a knee-jerk reaction (pun intended) to stick out a body part to get a piece of him. But in this case there was no intent to hurt at all as I didn't see where this phantom-knee attempt occured. Sakic is a mini-Yzerman - all class.
