NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 yeah probably, but even if i wasnt a wings fan...i'd rather take the 2 way player Oh, no doubt. I'd take Z and Dats *at this point of their careers* any day over the player Crosby is right now.
Mule Train 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 I'm sorry, but I have to call you out here for wearing the rose-colored glasses. To sit here and honestly believe that Z, Dats and Lids are the three best players in the NHL is both ridiculous and the very definition of homerism. I will give you that Lidstrom is the best player in the world, but to argue that Z and Dats are the other two of the top three is beyond debatable. Don't get me wrong, Z and Dats have a solid argument for being in the top 10 but there are so many other great players out there that deserve to be in the category. Even if we're not talking Crosby, what about a guy by the name of Ovechkin? It was sarcasm....somewhat. You and I both know that Ovechkin is probably the top offensive talent in the league right now. He is a player that could be plugged into a system like Detroits and excel. My point was more that Crosby does not belong on that list - in the West he is a first liner but hardly better than all. As far as top duos - no contest. Z and Dats win that hands down. Throw Lidstrom into that mix and you have a line thats truly something special.
NHLrules? 32 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 How well has Havlat done in the West? Seems he did alot more while in the East no?
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Z is the more complete player for sure. He also has 7 years on Crosby. As much as the little crybaby has been irritating me this series, he's a great player and a hard worker. By the time he's in his mid 20s he should be even scarier than he is now. Agreed, but that has nothing to do with what the OP was talking about. People got all up in arms about how Z and Dats are more complete and better all-around players, yet the OP never once brought that in to question. We all know Z and Dats are more complete players at this point in time, but that had nothing to do with the thread.

Opie 308 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 IMO 1. Lids 2. Ovechkin 3. Zetterberg/Datsyuk To me they are equally as good and should be a tremendous duo and tremendous individual talents as well. The more I try to separate the two and figure out who is better I can't 5. Crosby
lomekian 201 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 I think Offensively sid has the edge, and at his age, should only improve. For a superstar his work ethic seems good, and he's been the pens bst player by some way this series (though Hossa was pretty damn good last night).....I think you probably would take a trade of dats or hank for sid the kid, because by his late 20's he should be a whole lot better than his pretty damn good self, and a couple of years at the joe would have him playing a more 2 way game. part of his problem at the pens, is that very few of the senior players are really good enough at any disicipline to teach him much, and his jackass of a coach isn't helping his development either. he would already be a significantly better player given 2 years on the wings......ah well... Also this thread made me drool about the thought of ovechkin with dats and zett....wow!
