I know the stanley cup trophy goes around among the players during the summer, but what happens after that? they return it to bettman and the NHL etc? or do they make a new trophy every year, i mean, they gotta like make it bigger so they can include more names? this isnt the exact same trophy that was won in the 20's right? Does Zetterberg got to keep his Conn Smythe or will he just have it during ths summer then return it (same as the stanley cup trophy) ?

And can anyone in simple english explain the significant difference between RFA&UFA, and what is the better and worse of them? benefits with the two?

Best regards

i believe the cup stays in the HoF in toronto during the regular season.

this is the same cup that was used 20 years ago etc. The cup has rings, when a ring is filled up with names it moves ??up or down?? the cup where a new ring is set in. The oldest ring on the cup is then removed and i believe that ring is also stored somewhere in the HoF. Hank doesnt get to keep the conn smythe either. same deal as the cup.

unless i am mistaken the main difference between a UFA and an RFA is this...if a player is a RFA and signs with a different team than that which he had been playing with. The team that signs him would have to compensate his former team i.e. give up draft picks. A UFA can sign with any team and that team would not have to give compensation to his old team...the compensation then comes from the league.

i know there is a lot more to it than that...but thats the jist...

Thanks

But what are those rings you talk about... anyone has a super-zoomed pic of the cup?`

So why don't every manager get the players to be RFA's instead of UFA's after their contract is finished?

It's an age and experience thing. This year, players over 26 years old who have played 7 years in the league can go unrestricted. Next year, it's players over 25 with at least 7 years in the league. Then it's 25+ the rest of the current NHL-NHLPA agreement.

According to this (Ring Removal?) thread on another fansite, the current oldest ring is 1953-1965. THat would make, counting backwards, a ring that has been removed for 1952-1964, 1941-53, 1930-1952, 1925-1929 (no Cup Champion in 1918 due to the Spanish Influenza pandemic). 1906-1924 are actually on the rings of the Cup itself (More Cup trivia) and thus can't be removed, so there are 4 removed rings.

Oldest team on the Cup would have to be the 53-54 Detroit Red Wings.
