Heard it today on Vancouver's Team 1040.

Fill the gap left by Doug Weight.

While in Detroit back in '02 at my nephew's game, I overheard Chelios talking with some guys and he said something to the effect that as Morrison goes, so go the Canucks. He was the heart and soul of the Big Line (Naslund and Bertuzzi).

I never really saw it that way from my armchair, but I don't doubt the things I hear Chris Chelios say regarding his competitors.

Good luck, Mo.

Thrashers? Isles? Yotes? None of those teams are really desperate for offensive Dmen, but they have the space to take on Schneiders contract to put them over the cap floor. Then again, Im not sure how many RFAs those teams have to re-sign. But this puts the Ducks well above the cap by a few million at least.

Schneiders on the outs it seems..

I posted this yesterday. It talks about Shneider and McLaren talking to the Senators.

damn. I was hoping the Ducks wouldn't pick anyone else up. They lost McDonald to get Weight, then they lost Weight. I was so happy to see that. Now.......... not so much.

Why? Morrison is a shadow of his former self, but more importantly, hes rehabing from a nasty MCL tear and IF hes ready at the start of the season, he'll take a while to get back into the swing of things.

You're forgetting. Burke loves to copy the Wings. My God, half their roster the past two years has been former Wings. :P And now he's trying to copy our style of "bring in the washed up veteran for his comeback", only, that doesn't work when your team is merely a bunch of goons.

Well hes clearly NOT copying the wings then thank god

The Canucks are fading fast into obliteration.

Oblivion? ;)

Anyways, I'd say they're also dumping (letting) players (go) who have been fading into oblivion, like Naslund and now Morrison.

I'd also include Bertuzzi, but there were other reasons they let him go too besides his decreased production.

For lack of a better word at the time. Canuck fans and guys on their forums must just be screaming at their pc monitors, yelling "wtf." I would rather have picked up a couple decent players at fair prices, instead of pinning your hopes on a 20 million dollar superstar.

They'll sign Demitra. Hes no better than Naslund, but at least he can play center. And I'd rather have Bernier than Morrison. If they do in fact sign Demitra, the Canucks fare better..

Unlike Naslund who has seemed rather half-assed (it took him a long while to lose his fanbase's faith) in his play over the last few seasons, Morrison has some great speed, a great passing touch, and a wicked backhand. I consider him sort of like an Andy McDonald. If Morrison can stay healthy he can put up 50 points. I think he'll get in the range of $2-3m (Ducks might be able to get him at a discount) per season, and while it's risky given his recent health problems, and even when healthy, inefficient play, if he stays healthy and produces like several years back it would be a bargain price.

I find it rather difficult to understand why Vancouver is not making any real splashes into the FA market.

I think a good question is if they are going through a rebuilding phase if Luongo, who left the Panthers (for one of a few reasons) to play on an established team that can go into the playoffs, would sit around for it.

Isnt that bad.

There defence, healthy is top 5 in the league. With Luongo behind them, they'll be fine.

The key, however, is that Morrison WON'T be 100% when he starts the season at least. That MCL is going to affect his skating game.

True. Ducks are flipping a coin, but they have the depth to do it.

Agreed. I think Wellwood will end up higher though. The guy could be a 60 point player. The question with Wellwood has always been conditioning, and I could see him rectifying that problem in a way to similar to how Cleary rectified his work ethic. Sometimes all it takes is someone basically spelling it out that you're unwanted (on the TML no less) for you to change. And I think Wellwoods on the right track. The fact that he accepted his QO from the Canucks without trying to squeeze out a few more bucks makes me think hes looking to clean his reputation.

Huh? The Ducks have the exact opposite of depth up front. They're dying for scoring depth. In fact, they NEED Morisson to put up 50-60 points. This isnt a "well take a risk for the hell of it and see if it pays off" kind of move. This is a "we've f***ed ourselves over so much with our cap space that we need to sign a questionable 2nd line center and pray to god that he can put up some respectable numbers" kind of move.

Except they had the same thing last year and fared well because they have a well-achieving defense on the scoring front. Besides, almost assuredly, the Ducks will try to make a splash at some point in the season to either further solidify their defense or add some needed shot in the arm to their offense. Given their favoring toward defense (right behind the Wings in best defense in the league, amongst the worst in scoring as a team) I wouldn't be surprised if they went that route, or re-signed Schneider.
