PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Posted by George James Malik July 09, 2008 16:18PM The Sporting News's Craig Custance has more than a passing knowledge of Red Wings free agent acquisition Marian Hossa as Custance previously wrote for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He spoke to Hossa's agent, Rich Winter, about Hossa's decision to spurn several long-term deals in the $7-8 million range to sign with Detroit on July 2nd, and Winter admitted that he had to at least give his client a good "razzing" about his actions: http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2008/07/wi...sas_decisi.html What can you make of adding a no movement clause? for his own safety? omnipotent_hudler 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 The no movement is probably a safeguard against detroit recognizing that they might only have him for one year and dealing him for a massive return as his value is so high right now.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 The no-movement clause just guarantees that he can't be moved because he only came to Detroit because he feels this team has the best chance to win the Cup. There's no way Holland would trade Hossa at the deadline, but as you said, "for his own safety".
egroen 384 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Heh... Holland could have traded him at the deadline for a decent second line plug and a 1st rounder Who is signed at 50%? Kronwall? Certainly not at the time he signed. Zetterberg? Again, not at the time he signed. I see a lot of 25% discounts, but not much more than that. egroen 384 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 I was thinking some more on that -- Lilja! With Finger at $3.5 million, Lilja is at least worth $2.5 million -- at least in the eyes of an agent like Winter
Doggy 130 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Lilja is better than Finger.

JoeBuddy 10 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 I do think that Ken Holland might have thought twice anyways about trading Hossa without the no trade clause. What would future free agents who think if the Wings show the type of disrespect to Hossa. The man took less money, and a very shorter term on his contract because he wanted to win a cup and he thought we were the best fit. There would be no way anyone would ever consider the Wings for the same type of deal or discount in the future because they might feel we would just trade them if it benefited us in any type of trade. Good points, on all accounts.
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 Teams that trade their stars away at the trade deadline are the ones who consider themselves to be out of the playoff race and look to rebuild through draft picks and prospects. Last season Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles among others were in that situation. I suppose Holland sees Red Wings to be a playoff contender already. I wonder why.
