Opie 308 Report post Posted September 30, 2008 RALEIGH, N.C. - Jeff O'Neill has decided to end his comeback bid with the Carolina Hurricanes. The 32-year-old forward attended Carolina's training camp on a tryout and appeared in three pre-season games. Team management and O'Neill met on Sunday night and mutually agreed that he should be released from camp. O'Neill last played in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2006-07, when he had 20 goals and 42 points in 74 games. The former first-round draft pick spent nine years in the Hartford/Carolina organization and scored 30 or more goals three times. In 821 career NHL games, O'Neill has 237 goals and 496 points.
