Every team's biggest game of the year

Weary Wings finally can't rally

But it’s a journey; I know because I’ve been through it. Baby steps, keep on keepin’ on.

The bottom line, though, showed the defending Stanley Cup champs with a 7-0-2 record in those nine games.

“I guarantee you every team we’ve played was their biggest game of the year,” Babcock said. “That means mentally you’ve got to be on all of the time. We haven’t been. It is impossible. But in saying that, we’ve done a pretty good job.”

“It’s always a work in progress,” the coach said. “This trip is a great example of how much better it can make you if you just embrace it.”

Babcock said he lives his life half-scared. He made similar mention during the Stanley Cup playoffs last spring, even when his team had a commanding series lead over Dallas in the Western Conference finals. He said fear was a great motivation, that winning was as much a relief as something to rejoice.

“We didn’t win last year because of our skill. We won because we worked hard,” Babcock said.

The Red Wings still have a lot of work ahead of them, and they have a lot of time to accomplish it. For that fact alone, the rest of the league, too, has something to fear.

The Wings will be fine guys.

...and for the record, Babcock is as good as I think he is.

A couple of things to remember, however. It’s October. The Red Wings were playing the second night of back-to-backs and for the fifth time in seven nights.

Honestly, will anyone recall what happened on this night in March, April or May?

My point is, shove your panic buttons up your asses

Have people really been freaking out over how we've started the season? I haven't had too much time on the boards recently, so I honestly don't know.

Anyway, we have a target on our backs moreso than any other year, not only because we won the cup, but also because we managed to pick up Hossa, which really ruffled feathers. No games are "gimme games" anymore. At the same time, I don't think our team has hustled to the degree that they're capable of. But we're still in like 2nd place, and if halfhearted playing against our opponents who are giving 110% gets us second place in the league, I don't think we have much to worry about, cuz when we turn it on, which we will, we're gunna storm through our opposition.

Question is, will we just be able to turn it on come playoffs? The last 2 regular seasons Babs has had this team playing playoff hockey all year round. I wanna get back to that hard working, smothering D that has been our hallmark under Babcock.

The good thing about people freaking out over, what I consider, nothing is that it changes up the arguments on here. It is slightly refreshing to see some one besides me and GMR, or GS&T and Eva etc arguing, now it is usually (not always) some one with a join date of 8/8/08 and Eva, GS&T, GMR it is almost uniting old enemies to face the new enemy.

There should be a slight bit of humor and a slight bit of truth to that post!

The coalition for the fight against the Random Idiot. :D

Sidenote: Yes, Echolalia....plenty of people have already freaked out. No different than any past season and no different than it will be next season.

http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=54012

it makes perfect sense though that everyone has something to prove when they play the wings. if you can beat us, you can run with the big boys. when the jackets gear up for a game against the preds...obviously both teams want to win, but is not nearly as important symbolically. *shrug* we'll be alright.
