Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 So I noticed the wings don't play to next Saturday? Any reason why they have such a long break? Sorry if this was discussed already, I was just curious. My best guess would be do to a long west coast trip, they have a little break?
The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 You answered your question yourself. The team just came off of a lengthy, grueling road trip, so a near weak's worth of rest was scheduled to give them a bit of a breather before playing again.
This Is Bida 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Egh, I personally think 5 days is a little too long though. I know it's only one days difference but I think 4 would have been plenty. Personally I hate not playing for any more than 4 days. After that it's tougher for me to get into the groove. Now, lets keep in mind I'm not playing in the NHL and I obviously don't play near as much hockey. Regardless, I think most NHL'ers would agree 5 days is, maybe, a little too long. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 From what I understand, every team in the NHL gets one or two extended breaks like this over the course of a season. I don't think it necessarily *must* coincide with the conclusion of a long, distant road trip but its the NHL's way of giving their players a break throughout the long season. Keep in mind that these guys don't have weekends like we do. They're constantly either on the road, at practice or playing in games. This/these break(s) are there to help keep the players from burning out and protect their (for a lack of better terms) sanity.

Plus I'm sure Babs would love the break to do some nice long skating drills after their road performance.

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Just a hunch, but defense might be a pretty common theme at practice this week.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 I would've liked to see this break come about 3 weeks later. The Wings JUST played their most complete game of the entire year, and their best game defensively, and now they're not playing for 5 days. Would've been nice for them to establish a healthy rhythm of defensive play before having to break. Not to mention, 12 games isn't much when you consider the season is nearly 7 times that long.
