YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 6.6M? No discount there. Hes not worth near what Datsyuk is (although Datsyuks deal was higher by nature of the cap at the time) and hes not worth more than a guy like Getzlaf. Not to mention, 15 points in 16 games is ok and all, but not incredibly special. Now, with that said, this IS the Avs, and Stastny is proving to be the best forward on the squad. In that regard, you could expect Joe Sakic's heir apparent (using that term liberally) to get paid a lot.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 I must be the only one who thinks this is a good deal for the Avs. 78 points in his rookie season, 71 last season, and he’ll probably put up 70+ again this season. He’s only 22, with a heap of improvement left in him so this is a good deal, very decent value.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 He'll be the face of the franchise once Joe is gone. It may seem pricey now, but I think this deal will be worth it due to its term.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 And, sadly, it looks like Joe will be gone very soon. Don't put his salary on the books for next year.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Good signing by the Avs to get him locked up. It looks a little pricey right now; but as someone said, once he's the face of the Avs after Sakic leaves, the deal will look better and better every day, especially if he keeps up the production
finalfilppula 2 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 it'll be worth it.
Opie 308 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Good signing on their part IMO. As Aussie mentioned he has had some pretty decent numbers, 70 points is top 30(depending on the year obviously)! Especially if they have him earmarked as the next C.
soultrain 43 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 he should have held out to go to a different team. the av's suck hard, and they will for many years, which makes me happy deep down.

So what if next season they sign Hossa and Sundin at discounts? Or lets say they get Mule, Afinigenov, and Sundin? You forget that in a cap era any team can go from worst to first in a single offseason.

Opie 308 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 See now you and I are on the same page, I too hope they suck for years to come, as with all western conference teams other than the wings!!!!!
The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 He's a great player, but I don't think he's worth 6.6 million per.
