Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted November 23, 2008 The last great oppertunity, yes. We'll always have a chance, but we should take advantage of having such a great team this year, and not worry about the next few, our drafting can handle anything. When the playoffs begin, this will probably be the best team we've iced in a long time.

When the playoffs begin, this will probably be the best team we've iced in a long time. Its actually the drafting I'm worried about. Drafting is huge under a salary cap. Whereas the Wings were able to dump a ton of money, time, and talent into scouting the highs and lows almost entirely on their own pre-cap, there are a lot of teams who are now doing the same, considering the money you put into scouting doesn't count against the cap. The Edler story is a prime example. Detroit doesn't have the market cornered anymore.
