skacore 2 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 I love watchign ANY hockey game, id rather watch paint dry than watch baseball, and football just flat out sold out and was only really good in the early 1900s, basketball sucks, everything about hockey is perfect, the hits, the goals, the fighting, the dekes, i watch hockey every night no matter what the matchup, i think if your a true hockey fan/player you don't need a fight every damn game, half of the time they suck now anyways cause the guys are getting really timid id even say guys like Zetterberg are alot tougher than the enforcers. Just look at Laraque vs Chara, they just have sex with each other and fall down. The only guy that would be worth watching fighting every night would be Carcillo. Theres not gonna be a fight every wings game, if thats all you care about watch a different team such as Phoenix or a different sport for that matter such as the lowly MMA. It's not all about fighting, when have I said that? I enjoy all aspects of hockey as well and watch games every night, usually 2 at a time. I bought Center Ice so I can watch all games. Fighting is a minor part of what I'm trying to say, but comes naturally when you play with emotion. The Wings in the 90's were so entertaining because they played with their hearts on their sleeves. They could score, hit, and fight with the best of them. If you watched the Wings in the late 90's you know what the atmosphere at the Joe was like when the grind line was on the ice... unreal. They used to start games and just blow the roof off the place. I have a ton of respect for elite players like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Hossa. But what I don't find entertaining is a guy like Kopecky who gets 3 dump ins a night and a wrister from the blue line taking up a spot on the 4th line for an energy player. It's just boring as s***. We win games nowadays based on skill level and skill level alone. Hardly on momentum, emotion, etc... Like I know people may joke about it but what if the Wings actually become Team Sweden? How is it possible to cheer for that team night in and night out... Maltby and Draper are on their way outs, I know we have Helm coming up, but aside from those guys Cleary is or only other Canadian on forward, that's insane! Put a product on the ice that people can root for and idealize and old school fans may actually start to give a s*** about the games and show up for some games. CrossoverThrash 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 I meant only 1 North American forward, not Canadian From what i can tell, no matter what the country they all play with passion, does it matter where they come from if they have good hockey skills. I agree Kopecky should be fighting, but if had some other abilities i wouldn't mind if he didn't, he simply is not cutting it on this team. He has had some decent hits but at this point in time especially playing on the first line, not enough. I was only a grade schooler in the late 90s and i moved to Wisconsin after the second cup, but i remember my favorite players being Larionov, Kozlov, and Federov. Besides stevie of course. Konstantinov seemed to be the wing that got everyone fired up the most though, especially when he annihilated Turtle its too bad him and Fischer both are out of it, luckily we have Kronwall who has the best mind and surprisingly can hit despite his size, but he's no Fischer in the physical department. I think as long as our bottom 2 d pairings are smashing guys, its less the aging 4th line's job. They only play like 5 min a night anyways, its not that unbearable to see them on maybe 10 shifts. CrossoverThrash 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 As much as I love a good coo coo bird cage rattler, hitting doesnt protect teamates. Ideally, you get a guy like Neil or Torres that do both very well. Or you use your enforcer sparingly, when another team takes exception to things. In the playoffs of course everything chnages, hitting is huge in the playoffs. It changes games, in the same kinda way a fight changes a game in the regular season, gets the boys on the bench going. If you lay a big check into may or parros and knock them out for an entire game rather than just 5 min thats a whole lot more effective than a measly 3 punches landed fight. Haha! That hilarious! Good luck with that! Yes, Kronner, line up a big hit on Parros and see what that gets you! Wait, wait,...so would this be our new deterrent instead of the PP? esteef 2,679 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) Dude hitting is far more important than fighting I don't disagree, but it will never take the place of fighting. Taking runs at fighters is gonna get you a Bertuzzi-like incident where someone's gonna pound Kronner after a hit cause you KNOW he ain't droppin' the gloves. And it ain't like the Wings will have someone on the ice to help him out right? In fact, I'm surprised it hasn't already happened because we all know Kronner's hits haven't all been squeaky clean. esteef BTW, I love your avatar! You probably didn't even have to reshape his head at all did you?! Edited December 3, 2008 by esteef

I think Kronwall has at this poin in his career figured out how to dish it out wihtout being dished. The only guy's who can get back at him woudl be skilled players like Forsberg or iginla who can line him up when the situation arises instead of just hunting him with no avail.
