Chris Osgood breaks silence: 'I feel great'

*sigh*

I think there are more people here who outright hate the man than support him. And that's just pathetic.

the fact someone on this forum hates a player on the Wings for having a bad year is absolutely pathetic, and, unfortunately, expected.

  Couldn't agree more. I'll never understand how so many can turn against a guy who has been very loyal to the organization and played for a long time as an important part of the team that they support.

I don't really think it's turning on him. I think a lot of us are being critical of him because his play has warranted criticism this year. I definitely do not hate Osgood, and I'd like nothing more than to see him succeed. I think we're tired of this, "I feel great" quote because we've heard it so many times this season. I can remember three times (each being after a loss) where Osgood attributed the game to bad bounces, or penalties at the wrong time, or bad luck, and continued to state that he "felt great!"

What people seem to forget is that the Red Wings are definitely still in the hunt for home ice advantage. And with the season series tied at 2-2 with the Sharks (each team winning both games at home, and losing both games away), home ice is definitely a factor. Zetterberg said so himself after the win on Wednesday that they're definitely not planning on coasting through the remainder of the season; they want that home ice advantage. I'm not sure we can afford to keep trying to get Osgood going. It's do or die over the next week or two for him. Conklin hasn't been amazing, but he's been good enough, and that's all this squad needs.

Good luck tonight Osgood! I'm hoping for some solid saves behind a solid defense!

I don't have an issue with criticism. As long as it's healthy and constructive. Some of the s*** we've been reading the last couple months have been anything but, and that's really what I was talking about. There's plenty of people who know how to be critical of guys on the team without going absurdly overboard.

Agreed. It really rubs me the wrong way when somebody posts something like, "If Osgood had been in net that would've gone in for sure!" A lot of posters have taken criticism to the next level and have just started bashing him.

How you can compare the two is beyond me. No it's not the same, and it's quite insulting to Osgood. He's achieved and accomplished pretty much everything he could ask for in his NHL career. He can talk and say whatever he wants because you know what? He doesn't have to prove a thing to anyone.

Absolutely he doesn't have to prove a thing. Unless he wants to play games.

So, because of his previous support, we should blindly toss him into the playoffs regardless of his horrible play this season?

Osgood has tonight to prove himself. If he plays bad I don't see him playing much more this season. Babcock and Holland are still winners and won't play a losing goaltender especially since we don't have home ice and these games are important. The wings moved osgood once, don't think they won't do it again.

Well, Ozzie was solid in net tonight. He came up big when he had too. Hope he continues to get better!
