Who Should the Wings Shop

If the Wings are going to make a trade not involving only draft picks, which player(s) should the Wings shop?

I know a lot of people here like Val, but I wouldn't be too surprised if he was involved in a trade. If we traded him for someone who is going to be a FA next year, even if we got the slightly short end of the deal, I wouldnt be too angry, His cap money could be very useful in resigning Huds/Hossa/Franzen.

I was also thinking Sammy could possibly be, but he is one of our more fiesty players, so I don't think Holland would do that.

Also, what do people around here think of Dominic Moore. It looks like Toronto wants to trade him before the deadline. I haven't looked into his contract at all, but he looks like the type of gritty player the wings could use.

Thoughts?

BTW- This is my first post on this site, hopefully I don't piss anyone off.

Welcome!

I agree, I think that they should shop Flipper. I like him but the 3m he takes up could be used to help sign Hossa and Mule. I think that Sammy will stay till the end of the season as he would not give us much cap space anyway.

I don't know much about Moore but I can't see the Wings going after another forward as a rental with Helm and Leino I think that we are in good shape. I can see the Wings looking for a d-man as a rental but no big names as the cap is to tight.

i like fillpula, and he's a really solid 2-way player, but if the wings want to let him go somewhere to make cap space to resign hossa, franzen and huds, i'm all for it. i don't wanna see any of those 3 in anything but a winged wheel next year. leino and helm should have spots on the team next year by the sounds of things, so flip may be expendable. dissapointing if we lose him, but in the long run it may not be that big of a deal. sammy wouldn't fetch too much...he excelled as a wing cause he was given a role and he played it. his payment was a stanley cup...he won't ask for too much in the off season. keep him for the 3rd or 4th line, need depth. the only guys holland may be shopping other than flip are meech and lebda. kopecky is 4th line energy and hossa bait. with larsson playing really good and the arrival of mccollum in the next year or so, howard may be good trade bait. but in the grand scheme of things, at the end of the day, it's all gotta fit in the ******* CAP! so good luck to kenny and we'll wait and have fun speculating for 2 more days.

Feasibly, maybe Lebda and/or Meech, with some picks included, to make way for a more physical defenseman to clear out the front of the net and knock some guys around. Kop and Flip need to be given more time, reasonably, to see how they do. Don't agree with people jumping on the "dump Flip" bandwagon the very season he's on a new contract after his performance last season. If it continues past this season, given his salary, obviously get rid of him, but I shake my head at how fast some people are willing to rid of (and give up on) key players to their championship team.

I don't think they'll shop anyone. If they do trade people off the roster, it won't be until the offseason. There's no reason to trade Filppula now. They don't need to get rid of cap room now. They can wait until the offseason.

I strongly disagree about the "no one from the roster" statement - I think it would be wrong and won't happen to ship off Flip, but I'd bet money on it that come March 5th, either Meech or Lebda (or possibly both) will have new homes

My personal opinion

Samuelsson (has been rumoured to bruins as well)

Filppula (he just got too big of a contract - huge disappointment)

Meech/Lebda (if possible, prospects, picks, package deal it is)
