under_par_00 45 Report post Posted March 24, 2009 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=415161 They are now offering a one day pass to see all the hockey games. When I first read this I thought "Wow what a great idea, I might actually use it a few times, for sure just to try it out and see how the streams are." Then I saw that it was $20 per day!!!! What were they thinking? Am I the only one that things this price is way out in left field? I could get a damn Wings ticket for $20!
LEBDA22 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2009 I used to get the center ice package every year. They have upped the price for the entire season at least 20 bux every year since it first started. This year I decided to not get it, and just watch the free online streams. 20 Bux for 1 day worth of games is crazy. Someone is smoking some good stuff and needs to pass the joint. Guest Shoreline Report post Posted March 24, 2009 Some Canadian PPV's, to my surprise, were like $9 or $15 for SINGLE games. I couldn't believe it. And $20 is outrageous too. If you get the monthly installations of Center Ice (in paying for the season subscription) it's 4 months @ $39, which is 2 random single days of Center Ice. And to this.. This is complete and utter bulls*** -- a flat out lie and fabrication. I've had Center Ice for the last 7 or 8 years, sans lockout year, and the price has maybe gone up $10 the ENTIRE TIME. I've paid between $139 when renewing, or $149/$159 when ordering after canceling the renew. If it went up by $20 every season as you assert, it would be almost $300 by now. So please, just be honest and say you want your s*** for free rather than suggest it's the price's fault.

At least the part referring to what one pays for Center Ice. We've had it for at least six years.
FedorovGurl 2 Report post Posted March 24, 2009 I hear ya, Vladifan. I have had Center Ice for about 6 yrs as well and its worth whatever they charge. If for some reason I was unable to afford it .. I'd sell a kidney!
Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted March 25, 2009 when i first saw day pass on nhl.com I thought they are giving you a day for free but then when i saw 20$ for one day i lol sauced...
selkie 10 Report post Posted March 25, 2009 (edited) When we first got tv Center Ice in the late 90s it was like $109 per season if you got a preseason or renewal discount. Now Directv is charginf me like $170/season plus, since I get the games by satellite, I'm stuck paying all kinds of tax on it that I never used to. True cost works out to like $200/season once you add that into the mix. Though to be fair, we get a lot more feeds than we used to. There was a time when you only got one, with no guarantee of which one it was, and we'd get stuck with the thoroughly awful Kings announcers for every single Detroit-LA game. I do miss the odd Habs game broadcast entirely in French that we'd sometimes get and don't seem to anymore, but overall the price reflects a significant improvement in chanel quantity. No taxes at all, and $109 has always been their price if you get it in like January. What is up with people fabricating things?

Directv didn't give use the renewal rate this year, (yeah, we've been subscribers since 1997-8, but I didn't catch it on the bill in time to *****. Go figure) so call it $159 instead of $169 plus insane satellite taxes. I wasn't too far off on remembering a bill from 2+ months back.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted March 25, 2009 In sweden it's $17.27 for 30days, it's alright price, and the playoffs are usually on tv so you don't have to pay for the whole year.

The only taxes you get are from having satellite at all, you're not taxed additionally for Center Ice. I don't get where you say the "true cost" is $200. It's $159 maximum and nothing more. Someone earlier said it was rising $20 per year since it started which is also BS.

Communications service tax for Directv in Florida sets you back 13.17% and is not a flat rate. (Grumble. Only other place over 10% is the District of Columbia) So doing the math, neither of us were correct. True cost to get Center Ice in Florida without the renewal discount is $179.94 plus about another 20-30 cents in other state-specific taxes applied to my bill.
