Nightfall 871 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 I'd attribute it to three factors: 1) Datsyuk very rarely catches a full hit; his agility and impressive awareness of what's going on on the ice allow him to avoid the vast majority of them, though he certainly does not avoid situations for fear of getting hit. 2) Knowing Datsyuk's work ethic, I wouldn't be surprised if he takes extra-good care of himself off the ice. Stretching and the like can go a long way towards prevention of injury, especially such injuries as muscle pulls or strains. 3) Some players are simply more injury prone or less injury prone than normal. Players such as Marian Gaborik and Martin Havlat belong to the extreme end of the former; Jarome Iginla and Datsyuk are examples of the latter. This is the best explanation. A vast majority of the hockey players already do everything in #2. If they didn't they would be in the minors pretty fast. The best one is #3 though. There are a lot of players that are just prone to injury than others. Some are very injury prone like Gaborik and Havlat. Others are very resilient. Datsyuk and Lindstrom are just like this and will have long careers.

Given that Joakim Lindstrom has never played a full season in the NHL, what factors make you feel that he falls into the 'durable' category?
Nightfall 871 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) Given that Joakim Lindstrom has never played a full season in the NHL, what factors make you feel that he falls into the 'durable' category? Seems to me he is getting called up and being put back down to the minors a lot in the course of his career. He isn't missing games because of injury, at least not that I have seen. Mind you I would need to see injury data for the minors which is not covered on tsn.ca. If anything, he suffers from not having the skill for the NHL. Maybe this season is a turnaround for him on the Coyotes. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?i...ame=nhl-coyotes Yes, I fed into your question a bit. Indeed, I did not refer to his lack of a full season in the NHL as an indication that he is frequently injured, but rather to note the lack of sufficient data to demonstrate any durability on his part.
