  1. It wouldn't matter if Toe Blake and Scotty Bowman were both coaching this team at the same time. They would still be bad.

    Henrik Zetterberg has Retired

The good news is that his back is fine for everyday life, but when he pushes himself to train, it flares up. He should be able to lead a normal life, which is the most important thing. Thanks for the great memories Z!
  3. This right here. Yzerman would be coming into a situation where the cupboard is being restocked, and no truly elite players on the roster. Yzerman wouldn't be making a change to Detroit because there is a better chance to win, thats for sure. Its another rebuild project.
  4. I can understand the hard on that every Detroit fan has for Yzerman taking over as GM for the Wings, but when I look at it, I really don't know how good or bad this is going to be. This could go very well for Detroit. Yzerman makes some great moves for the Wings and they find themselves competing for a cup in the next 3-4 years. On the flip side, he makes some bad deals and drafts some duds and then everyone is ready to lynch Yzerman by year three or four. I remember seeing Yzerman play as a kid in the 80s and then leading the team to compete for a championship in the 90s, so I think I would give Yzerman quite a bit of rope when it comes to GMing. The rest of Wings nation may be willing to give him a pass for the first couple years, but it wouldn't take many years of playoff emptiness before the fans would revolt against him. Well, I hope that Yzerman and his family are going to be ok and that this isn't a family emergency.

    Frk vs Pulkkinen

I have seen Frk play for the Griffins and last season was his coming out party. He helped the Griffins to their Calder Cup win and now he has made it to the NHL. His work ethic is above and beyond what the Griffins and Red Wings require. He is usually the first person to show up for practice and the last one to leave. I remember I played a charity event at Van Andel on a Saturday, and when we showed up at 2pm to play our game, Frk was already there. Talking to the trainers, that was a common thing to see him show up extra early on game days and optional days to get a good workout in before practice or a game. That is dedication right there. Anyway, he is shaping up to be a solid NHL player. He won't be a 1st line player, but he has a place in the league to play 3rd line minutes and maybe even 1st or 2nd line power play with that shot of his.

Mason getting hung out to dry in net more like it. I am watching this instead of the Pens banner raising. Toronto looks good while the Jets had an early flurry and then a big let down.
  8. I am hyped about hockey starting, and I am also hyped to see the Wings play. I already have tickets to see the Wings play in Dallas and Vegas (road trips!). So I would say 10. I am also hyped for the return of hockey in general. 10 out of 10. On the flip side, many of my friends who are Wings fans are kind of excited, but the excitement is curbed because the Wings are not the best team in the league. Lets face facts here, fans love a winner. The next few years are going to be rough on Wings fans. Many are going to leave, and thats ok. I used to be irritated with bandwagon fans, but now I understand it. Why support a team that is in the crapper if the management doesn't appear to care? I now understand why Hawks fans vanished like a fart in the wind when management was crapping on the team. The Wings fans will return.

    Which player(s) would you trade?

I am going to throw something out there as food for thought. The Wings are not going to be a in a position to compete for a cup until they get some generational talent. The only way to get generational talent is to draft in the top 10 consistently. Sure, there is always a chance we could get a Dats or Z again in the later rounds, but the odds of that happening are slim to none. Anyway, knowing this, it doesn't matter how strapped we are right now. It doesn't matter how strapped we are 3 years from now. The bad contracts will be off the books by the time we get some talent and get things back on track. A better idea would be to just play the kids and spend to the cap floor from this point forward. Let the team fail and get those high draft picks now. Yes, with a new arena, this team is going to suck which means that many fans will likely not spend a lot on tickets. At the same time though, this is the best method to get those top 10 draft picks we need. We don't need to trade away any contracts right now.

    Off-season moves

No terms have been announced yet. I can live with a 2 or 3 year deal. By the time we are competitive, the deal will be done.

    Griffins Calder Cup Playoffs Thread

I agree with this. I do think Bert and Svechnikov would both be best suited playing top line minutes in Grand Rapids instead of bottom 6 minutes in the NHL. As for Frk, he really did very well for the Griffins, but I don't know if he is NHL material. There is a reason why the Wings put him on waivers, Carolina picked him up, and then put him back on waivers for us to grab again. We have to give him a shot, because if we don't, someone else will. I just don't know. He was a key piece to the Griffins this year though. Oh, and I want another full season for Hicketts as well in the AHL.

    Griffins Calder Cup Playoffs Thread

Here is a good article on it. For those of you who aren't living in Grand Rapids or follow the Griffins, Cleary's leadership was a big reason why the Griffins did well. Bertuzzi's development was huge thanks to him as well. Yea, I get it, some Wings fans are upset with Cleary or hate him. Personally, I have no problems with him because he came to Grand Rapids and did what I expected him to do. Be a leader, work with the kids, and help bring the Calder Cup back to Grand Rapids. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2017/05/13/daniel-cleary-embraces-time-griffins-red-wings/101570054/

Its too early to be calling Coreau a star or a bust. Goalies typically don't come into the league and light it up from day one. He had a subpar game in Game #3, but he played lights out in Game #2. Without him, the Griffins would be down 2-1 in the series instead of up 2-1. The Griffins didn't deserve to win Game #2 for the way he played, but thanks to Coreau, it happened. Anyway, I am just hoping that they win Game #4 right now. I really don't think the Griffins are going to be able to win 2 in a row at home if they drop 3 straight in Syracuse. Get it done!

If the Preds win, I will buy a Preds Subban jersey. You heard it here first.
