Thornton is definitely on my hitlist now.

He'd be on mine too, man. Watching him last night pissed me off as a hockey fan. I mean, if you can't get motivated when you're Presidents Trophy winning team is down 1-0 in a series then why are you even here? I can't imagine the evil thoughts I'd be having if I were a Sharks fan.

Is there no way he's carrying an injury? I never thought about it until now but he looked like an injured player.

From what I know, it's rumored Marleau has a knee or lower body injury. Haven't heard anything on Thornton.

No dude, that's how he always look this time of the year.

I tend to agree with mos of these posts but there a few things we need remember:

1.The SJ/Ana series is not over yet. If the Sharks come back win the series, end up playing the Wings and Thornton dominates us I am blaming each and every one of you.

2. Steve Yzerman had the same label until the 13 or 14 season of his career.

1. I'll buy you a nice bottle of wine if that happens (that is if you're over 21)

2. Steve Yzerman won the Conn Smythe - if Thornton does that I'll buy you another bottle of wine. ;)

They made a great move. Thornton is a joke, seriously, I'm pissed I used to even like Joe, he cant get up for the games, it has nothing to do with foot speed or talent, Thornton cant get up for the big game. I wish I could change Datsyuks name to Brian Anderson so he could freakin lead Canada next year cuz I sure as hell dont want it to be Thornton.

Maybe he just isn't as good as some people make him out to be - plain and simple.

Not that I am defending Sharks or anything, but they've managed to shoot 44 times and got only 2 goals, Ducks got 3 from 26.

I have only two comments about that:

1. You have to have guys like Holmstrom and Franzen who can stick their butt in goalie face.

2. Even if you have them doing that you are not protected of being 0-4 in the series (Detroit 2003 vs Ducks)

The Sharks are playing the Ducks exactly like the Wings did in 2003. Alot of shots on paper - but not alot of goalie traffic (some but not enough), and the attitude that they were destined to win the series before it started. That's why we lost in 03 and that's why the Sharks will lose this series.

I am well over 21 and Yzerman didnt win the Conn Smythe until the 15th season of his career, like I said in my orginal post. I'll take a nice Australian Shiraz but I hope the Sharks dont come back.

I believe this is a classic case of not being mentally ready. IMO, I think most players and fans underestimate the importance of mental fortitude during any sport. But come playoffs, you need even more. We are talking pushing the envelope 80 times more. Some players, while gifted, haven't really embraced this fact. Desire, heart, anger...these are just a few the emotions that drive/drove the best of the best. Granted some turn those emotions into negativity, but what can you do, eh?

It's all about how mentally tough you are come playoffs. Thorton is a classic example of this. Tons of skill, but can't do much in the playoffs. The pressure gets to him. Some feed off that pressure, that emotion, and then take it another level. To all the fans/rivals who wonder how the Ozzies regular and playoff stats are total opposites of each other? Kinda like it's 2 diffrent goalies? He's one of the few who feed off the pressure and the emotion needed to win, and then he goes all hulk smash during the playoffs.

At the end of the day, Thorton is a phenominal player. Probably one of the best of today...just doesn't have the mental fortitude to with stand the presure and emotion to drive him to the next leve: The playoffs.

When talking Thornton's return value to the B's how do you equate the cap space that made room for Savard/Chara? *Note The B's thought Thornton was going to ask for the Moon and stars when he was a UFA.

I wouldn't say the B's got nothing for him, but they got about as close to nothing as you could get.

They turned Thornton into:

W. Primeau

B. Stuart

M. Sturm

Turned B. Stuart into

A. Ference

C. Kobasew

Leaving room for Savard.

Having said that in the year Thornton got traded he was playing Hart Caliber hockey, and in return you get the three listed above.

IF...

The B's were in 9th place again would we be saying the same things?

IF the Sharks make it to the second round (like last year) and the B's are on the outside looking in (like last year) are we saying the same things.
