Grim 5 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 It's posts like these which make me so thankful that people who actually know about the game run our team... is this the same management that brought Hasek back three separate times? the same management that started Hasek for 41 games just last year 27-10-3 2.14GAA .902SVP then tapped him to start the playoffs (he went 2W, 2L)?? Give credit where its due, Ozzie earned all his postseason praise... but Dom too earned his name on that very same Cup. He's unretired on us once before, I wouldn't put it past him to try and comeback. Its up to him whether he'll be happy with a backup role. On second thought, If Dom is hell-bent on playing in the Olympics, I don't want him back. His injury in the 06 Games tanked the Senators postseason.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) No denying that "once upon a time", Hasek was the BEST in the NHL. But, that time has passed. AND, I do not like the way he retired, then came back, and forced the Wings to make a tough decision AFTER they signed Cujo to replace him. He retired again after the last Cup run, with MUCH less fanfare. You don't want your retirement announcement on page 5 of the sports section as an afterthought when you were one of the best to ever play the game. He only tarnishes his legend with these antics. That is why I compare him to Favre. The guy just cannot accept that his time has come to ride off into the sunset, and do it with some dignity and class. (See Yzerman, Gretzky, etc.) Edited April 22, 2009 by AtomicPunk
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 What is it about Dom that just gives people the redass? He was an elite goalie as recently as 2006-07. I felt like he should've been a Vezina finalist that year, his 2.05 GAA was I think 2nd in the league and his 8 shutouts were the 4th best total of his career. He was fine last year too--for whatever reason, revisionist history has him being a complete sieve all year, as opposed to just having a bad playoff series. Hell, like someone else already said, if they could make it work under the cap, I'd take him as a backup next year. He's > Howard or any other realistic option, as far as I'm concerned. AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 He can never be a backup. In his mind he is still the Vezina winner. It takes a different mindset than that to be a backup. He didn't like splitting games with Osgood his last time here. I can imagine how much it would bother him to play 25 games and not be a playoff starter.
