Guest Shoreline Report post Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) Ken and Mickey may say that those guys are from Michigan, but they don't insinuate that them being from Michigan makes them good players, something that HNIC does with Canadian players. That's the way Canadians are. This view isn't anything new as Canadians take pride in their hockey. I personally don't see anything wrong with it, although analysts will surely look stupid if they make suggestions like (and just paraphrasing/embellishing) wussy European Captains can't win or are soft/suck. Pens tie it. Edited May 2, 2009 by Shoreline

Pens tie it. I think it is wrong. Saying players from Canada are good because they are from Canada and saying players from Europe are bad because they are from Europe is stupid and xenophobic. If you watch CBC they pretty much do just that, but that's because that's what their audience believes and wants to hear. Don Cherry says good ol' Canadian boy on just about every Coaches Corner and then he berates players that are European for simply no other reason than because they are European. It's all stupid and will never change. Edited May 2, 2009 by Mike

Same as older Americans who are xenophobic about other countries, different religions, different viewpoints. That happens everywhere. And no doubt they look stupid for it, which is why I think it's perfectly fine. Eventually they'll retire, and people with most modest views come up. I'm in disagreement that it will never change, but Canadian culture is based on hockey and it's pride with how it plays hockey, so surely attitudes like Grapes' will be around for a while to come. It would also help if Canadians would lose more often in world competitions.

blikst 1 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 If the game goes to OT, they will transfer coverage to the Kentucky Derby. The hockey game will then go to Versus. I think they are going to show 1 OT period and then cut to the derby. That's how I remember it at least.
Mike 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 I think they are going to show 1 OT period and then cut to the derby. That's how I remember it at least. That's completely retarded. Do we really need to watch 3 hours of coverage before a 2 minute race? Show the damn hockey game. Pathetic.

How is Babcock not nominated? 50+ wins in 3 consecutive seasons is hard and a product of good coaching.
