Doggy 130 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) Where does he play? Finnish SM-Liiga? wow.. mad skillz there *not* He isn't even in the top40 in the rankings there's even another finn ranked higher than him... sure if he's left for the 4th round maybe they can get him... we already have small skilled finnish players in Leino and Filppula. No in the WC, you dumbarse. Rajala's actually a very talented player. You might know that if your sole source wasn't rankings. Broke the point record @WC. Haven't you learned already that the overall rankings aren't always that important (cases Zetterberg & Franzen for example). And I didn't know Leino was small. Flip isn't that small either. Edited June 16, 2009 by Finnish Wing

They're not that small, but they play a lot smaller! Flip is one of the softest Wings and from what Ive seen of Leino, he isnt far behind.
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 ZACK KASSIAN (LuÄić type of player) that is exactly what the wings need!!! someone who gets to the goddamn puck before the other team....other than helm and cleary. (dats and z just end up with the puck with their creativity) i wish lucic was a red wing... the wings need a helm#2. the grinder type that gets the superstars the puck and can score when they get icetime. not to be biased as a canadian, but draft a few more canadians. Probie 7 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 I mean Rajala + Red Wings would be perfect match. They say he's too small, but his doctor said his gonna be +180cm. Amazing skill with the puck and good backchecker also. Fast as hell and pretty good shot. I've watched him for a year now. 180 cm is 5 feet 10.86inches. Hes a 5'11 then, same as Matt Deuschene. So hes not that small. Think using a late 2nd rounder would be worth the risk? If we could somehow move our second rounder and something else and get a very high second round we could draft Tatar whom the wings like an awfull lot. It seems he might not last till our bottom 2nd round pick comes around...the kings look interested.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see the Wings be able to go higher in the draft but I just don't think it's going to happen. I mean I was a bit suprised the Wings held on to their 1st round picke last season and got McCollum, I was thinking that Detroit may trade something to get like a higher round pick in the 2nd or 3rd or even deeper in the draft last draft. The Wings have tons of good prospects, but on the surface they lack the "can't miss, kick ass" prospects you get when you draft high. Now Holland may feel differently about that based on experience and his scouts' comments, but as it stands now we don't have as many 'blue chip' prospects as other clubs. Based solely on draft position and the loosie goosie garbage big prospect rating sites (Hockey's Future, et al) use to determine worth, Kindl is probably on top of the pile in this department. In reality, Kindl looks great as a prospect but his development is going a bit slower than expected- he really hasn't shored up his defensive skill or consistency this season. People that list this stuff from the outside usually throw him at the top of the heap, but in reality I'd say Abdelkader is now the king of the hill (noting that Ericsson, Helm and Howard aren't prospects at this point, they're on the roster next season). I'd have to rank our remaining prospects into a top 15 that looks like this (using Red Wings Central's midseason rankings as a starting point and reordering/subtracting/adding on from there): 1 Justin Abdelkader 2 Ville Leino 3 Jakub Kindl 4 Daniel Larsson 5 Thomas McCollum 6 Brendan Smith 7 Mattias Ritola 8 Frances Pare 9 Cory Emmerton 10 Dick Axelsson (hat trick Dick!) 11 Joakim Andersson 12 Jordan Pearce 13 Sebastien Piche 14 Brian Lashoff (really impressed when he stepped in in GR late season) 15 Gustav Nyquist Noticeably missing from that list is a high end offensive player used to the NA style. Axelsson has the chops to be an excellent offensive player, but he's a bit of a mystery until he shows it in a NA rink over the course of a NA season. That's why I'd like to see the Wings take an offensive force in the first round. They like taking the safer picks, but when it comes to scorers the cupboard is looking pretty bare.
