Esquire 324 Report post Posted August 21, 2009 ...and got Steve Mason's autograph. He showed up for the "grand opening" of Pro Hockey life here in Whitby, Ontario along with his Calder Trophy. For the uninitiated, Pro Hockey Life is a gigantic hockey megastore. Think Costco meets hockey. Be cautious of these stores because the pure concentration of Crosby ads is enough to make your head explode. They even pump out playoff audio from the two previous years and take one guess what team is the focus of that little operation? I went in the for the first time last week, and as I was leaving, I flipped a huge wall ad of Crosby the bird and said "F*** you Crosby." The funny thing is, the two girls at cash laughed at what just took place and replied "You aren't the first person that's done that!" At least they have this guy's handsome mug on slightly smaller wall... Anyway, I got my Team Canada puck signed, shook his hand, and congratulated him on winning the Calder. I was about to wish him better luck against the Wings next year but I was ushered away by a burley security type. He must have seen my Red Wings background on my cell phone after snapping those pics. Damn. Actually, now that I think of it, I should have brought him a broom to sign.

You should have casually reminded him that Osgood will be retiring soon. *wink wink*

Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted August 21, 2009 That's cool. Speaking of the Datsyuk wall picture, I was in New York earlier this week and went to the NHL store and they had a huge picture of Datsyuk prominently displayed on a wall and the hallway to one of the back rooms had the Wings locker room on it. They also had a slightly obscured picture of Lidstrom. Nice to see the Wings well represented in these stores.

Esquire 324 Report post Posted August 21, 2009 Nice to see the Wings well represented in these stores. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of Wings gear available. Although, the Winter Classic jersey's were those "Vintage" ones and were very disappointing. And to be honest, just about every team was well represented at Pro Hockey Life. I've never seen any store like it.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted August 22, 2009 Congrats on getting the Mason auto. I still think he's lucky to get the awards he did...he wasn't even the best rookie goalie IMHO.
