The hit of the night

What if Stajan had his head down, and Boychuk caught him on the chin with a shoulder? It would be considered a dirty check by half of this board.

Boychuck rocked a player bent over and head down. If only he had the same sense Zata did. He and all of us called it as it was- clean hit, dust yourself off and dont make the same mistake twice.

Cut by the visor on the nose. If he did not have a visor and was not cut, I think there would be a lot of people singing a different tune. The visual of blood sometimes puts people over the edge. See blood? Must be a penalty. Sheesh.

Noone was yelling at Brad Stuarts checking Anisimov during the Rangers game. Dude had his head down- got rocked. End of story.

We're all just stating opinions. On a YouTube clip, with a 4 inch video running of a long off camera shot, to me it looked like the elbow hit the head. It's debateable of course.

Cool, I'm glad the True Fan Police are out in full force. Personally, I'm not calling this a dirty hit but I do think it is a hit that should be penalized with penalty box time simply because my opinion is that he caught him with an elbow. It was far from egregious, and I don't think a suspension would be right.

There are shades of gray... to me his toe went over the line of the penalty threshold, but didn't come close to the suspension line. But it's OK to debate it.

actually its not, if the hard elbow would have connected it would have been a much worse injury, there is a small foam pad on the bicep

Not necessarily. With the same hit, some guys would bounce right up, and some might be out months with a concussion. It's all different. but thanks for posting the 4 screen caps... it definitely changes my mind as I can now see that he really did keep his arm in. I still don't like headshots and this hit shows how difficult it's going to be for the NHL to institute a comprehensive ruleset governing headshots.

yeah, there was nothing boychuck could do but hit him in the head, but he can't give up a hit like that.

Yeah the true fan police are out because hitting is just as much a part of hockey as goal scoring and that was a thing of beauty. If you don't want that in the game then watch something else, don't complain about a clean hit (not saying you are but I mean people in general)
