Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Now that the Piston's are crap, I have lost interest. I have to admit though, watching Lebron is very exciting... He just explodes, and you expect highlight reel plays out of him every 2 minutes. I also like watching the dunk competition but that's about it. Also, I'll occasionally watch highlight videos of MJ, Magic, and Pistol Pete on YouTube. Although in the playoffs against the Pistons a few years back, he scored Cleveland's final 20 some points to win the game. I don't like how, like F. Michael said, basketball has evolved into an individual sport. This was how the Pistons were able to beat Shaq/Kobe & Co back in 2004, as a team.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 And don't even get me started on the "coin toss to see who gets to win in OT" system in the NFL. They should either switch to the college football system of OT or make it so you can't win on a field goal, have to go for a touchdown, especially since today's kicker is effective from 54+ yards. I love football and hockey, but there is a lot of problems with both. Basketball and baseball are a total loss to me. Actually, they showed a stat before the OT coin flip last ight that said the coin flip winner has won 7 and lost 6 (since whenever...) so it was as even as can be. And when I was a kid I flipped a coin 500 times and it ended up 250 heads, 250 tails, I s*** you not. Try it. I only watch playoff football. Who wants to sit around for 3 hrs watching tv if its not the Red Wings.

cupforwings 138 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Basketball is a joke to watch... the fouls are absurd and the refs cheat (literally, they are taught to cheat during their training)... It is so boring to watch it is hard to explain... Plus, I hate how they all are best friends and joke around during the game... 2 best leagues to watch: NHL and NFL... both of these sports are 100% team games. Basketball can be controlled by one player (i.e. Lebron and Kobe)
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 If the next Lebron or Kobe wanted to play for your program but he was dumb as s*** would you send him away? Not if you want to keep your job. There are no statistics for actual GPA's. The statistics show that everything is peachy and they do whatever it takes to keep the NCAA happy. I mean majority of NBA caliber players not majority of basketball players. It is a formality that the must go through. It's still more college than Crosby or Kane or Toews have had, right? Dismissing one year when high end NHL players have *no* college is sorta dumb.
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 And oftentimes, basketball players are usually worried not about the game, but afterwards about getting to the with Oh please. Stereotype for $200, Alex.
zettie85 106 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Oh please. Stereotype for $200, Alex. I'm not arguing that hockey players have better education. Stereotypes come from somewhere. They all have a hint of truth to them. Basketball and Hockey have different environments, upbringings and demographics, stereotypically. I'm not gonna go in to it any further. wingsgirl001 983 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 The fact that I love hockey doesn't affect my feelings toward basketball one bit. I would still think it sucks even if hockey didn't exist. :rotflmao: That pretty much sums up my feelings too.

I was saying NBA players, on average, have attended more college than NHL players. And stereotypes don't always come from somewhere. Sometimes it's just propaganda. Poles aren't actually dumber than other people.

Seraph 240 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 I got one of my basketball player friends into hockey. He likes it now, but still thinks basketball his better. His reasoning is that he doesn't think that in hockey, one good player can take over the game. He enjoys it in basketball when Kobe, Lebron or whoever will turn it on and win it for the team. Then show off, brag, etc. I could see that being true. Hockey is much more of a team sport. It could be much harder to appreciate it that way because you can't project a selfish mindet onto it as much. Also, I've also found that hockey can be really boring if you don't care which team will win. If you're excited and a diehard fan, you get nervous every time the puck enters your zone a certain way. You get excited when it goes the other direction. If you don't care, don't have a regional team, etc, it's way harder to get enjoyment out of it. In basketball, you can still have fun watching the "stars" go head to head and try to outdo one another.

stuck in socal 56 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Basketball is ok the last five minutes of the game. Aside from the timeouts it could be some pretty exciting stuff.
Vladiator 116 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 I've been getting more into the NFL due to a fantasy league. It's a great game, but just way too much advertising. I mean seriously, the network makes every excuse to send it to a commercial. The NHL gets 3 1.5 minute commercials per period (and I have seen a few games with less than that due to the lack of stop in play). As a final point .... I'd love for someone to put the stat out of how many NBA and NFL players have been convicted of a felony compared to NHL players. Seriously, you probably would be in the minority if you didn't have a criminal record playing in the NBA.
ilmickeyli 40 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) I dont care for the NBA, am an NHL fan 1st and foremost, but being from MI do watch the Lions every year (its my waste of a sunday ritual). Did read something that said there's only 11 minutes of actual "field action" in football.. The rest is huddles, replays (which was 56% of the entire game), commercials etc. Pretty crazy Edit: source http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...2055561406.html Edited January 26, 2010 by ilmickeyli

I never thought it'd only be 11 minutes of actual play but it totally makes sense. The flip side of that is that as a running back, I caried the ball 15-25 times a game, where as my time with the puck on my stick in hockey was mere seconds. But I've played all positions in hockey and would still play any position. In football, there is no way I'd ever want to play lineman. Baseball, I'd rather shag flies and field grounders and take batting practice than play an actual game. Game is too slow. And the "get ready, get ready get ready...nothing happened" on every 2 outta 3 pitches kills me.
Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Just think of how boring hockey would be if the players could not hit and the game was played without goalies. That's basketball. It sucks. They would just need to make the nets as wide as the puck is or play with beachballs , lol

Playing corner would probably be the worst I would think. Maybe it's different because we play that crazy Canadian version up here but O-line was definitely the best.
