NvrFrgtRussian5 85 Report post Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) I am going to the game tomorrow. Our boys need some support so I thought I would do my share and throw the octopi. I have been to many games (both reg. season and playoffs) but have never thrown one before. I tried searching around but can't find many topics dedicated to it. I am aware of the octoquette and the proper times to throw. I would want to do it after the anthem. Problem is, I am sitting in 226 in row 16. So pretty far. It is realistic to toss a 2-3 pounder from that distance (Nevermind. just realized that is on the wrong end of the ice) Or are they pretty good about letting you walk down to the lower bowl to toss and go back to your seat? I am going with 5 friends and am not drving, so if I run the risk of getting booted I won't do it. They sort of turn a blind eye right? Guest Howard He Do It?! Report post Posted April 20, 2010 (edited) You'll never make it from that far back. You need to be out on the concourse when the anthem begins and then jog down the stairs near the end of the anthem. Just don't jog down the wrong set of stairs. You don't want to be throwing the octopus down by the Wings' goal. From what I have heard security may grab you and pass you off to the cops, but they let you go back to your seat. It's a mutual understanding. Edited April 20, 2010 by Howard He Do It?!

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 I wouldn't worry about getting in trouble if you're throwing an octopus in the Joe. The staff are Wings fans too! If I were you I'd save the octopus for the first Wings goal, though. Bring 10 or 12, actually, and throw them out whenever we win a faceoff. 3 wings7, crotty99 and seeinred reacted to this

They'd probably have to kick you out for that But I agree, there's no way you get in trouble for throwing one, especially if it's before the game starts. If you delay play it may be another story, I don't know.
NvrFrgtRussian5 85 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 (edited) well, if I have time to pick the octopi up tomorrow I think I will go for it. I would really hope they wouldn't throw someone out for something that is basically unofficially endorsed. Is there ushers that will try to stop you from running down or is it pretty much a clear shot from the concourse down the stairs. BTW, a PHX player touched the octopus! Speaking of octo.... throw this government leaching monster on the ice: Speaking of great ideas: Tie a note on the octopus that says "Hey Al! Thanks for all your work. Please sign onto www.letsgowings.com and let us know if you got this note. Thanks!"

NvrFrgtRussian5 85 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 good idea attaching a note. Although I doubt it would ever be seen. I am still nervous. Trying to decide within the next 2 hours if I want to spend the money and hope not to get the boot. I wouldn't want to wait until the end of the game, I mean I see it as a good luck charm and something to get the crowd riled up right in the beginning. legaleaglewingsfan 75 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 I have been told that trying to get in a big crowd of people when doing it is the best manner of doing is since they cant say who did it and thus wont toss anyone so they dont get sued. I say go for it, it is as pointed out a bit unofficially accepted and almost encouraged. Do Al proud and get a big one and return it to the promised land of JLA. Blaayze 25 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 You won't get the boot. What would be the point of people throwing the thousands of octopi already. You will be fine. :octo: :octo: :octo: :octo:

I can't get a group around me since I am not sitting in the area. I am going to have to jog down the stairs toward the end of the anthem and just toss it and jog back up. Then hopefully return to my seat on the opposite end of the ice. If I go for it, I am bagging it and taping it around my leg.
Din758 371 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 somebody should start a thread on how to prepare you octopi for throwing, and correct etiquette on when to throw them to the homeland.

The octopi at Al's is frozen. I am so mad lol. I finally convinced myself and got really pumped up for it. How do you lose an octopus lol Edited April 20, 2010 by NvrFrgtRussian5
